Space Rangers HD next week on Steam!

Don’t forget Steam Standard Time Zone, so give or take a few hours

No

I’ll do a search on their site when I wake up. Too tired after a long day. But I read it on either their site or the forum where they stated it’s rewritten from scratch. But lemme zzz first.

Edit: I also remember specifically that they say it’s a totally new source because they are not the original developers and they don’t have access to it. That was a year back though. I hope I can find it. I notice their Q&A says they have what they need which skirts the question about the source.

Edit2: Turin u managed to get hold of a copy? U lucky dude =). Does it look very similar to SR2?

No, I was just saying, looking at screenshots and stuff.

Okay, so I’m completely confused. This is a remake of the first game, right? What does this add that wasn’t in SR2 or the expansions?

I seem to recall there’s a way to turn off those mission types in-game, but I think I somehow still ended up stuck doing text adventure stuff on occasion. I actually love minigames in my games (see Covert Action, Sword of the Samurai, et al), but only when they’re integrated well, and the RTS and text adventure stuff just did not feel well-integrated to me. SR2’s core trading/fighting in a dynamic universe gameplay is tops, though. No other similar game comes close.

No?

It’s the second game, in HD and with more stuff thrown at it.

Space Rangers HD: A War Apart remasters and expands the world of the cult classic Space Rangers 2.

edit: more

The biggest of the improved features is a new scenario dedicated to the pirates threatening the galaxy. While the Coalition spends all of its resources to fight the Dominators (sentient machines who seek to eradicate all life), the pirates have united under the banner of a mysterious leader. Under this new master they have begun their own guerilla war to seize power in the weakened Galaxy. Players can now choose with whom to deal, the Dominators or the pirates, or both at the same time. If you choose the latter path, you will receive new story and side quests, new goals and promotions. After winning one of the wars, you can either finish the game or continue playing to win another.

Players begin their pirate career as the lowest of the low, and will make their way to the top of the pirate hierarchy, completing story missions and learning new information about the organization and its unknown leaderwhose actions threaten the very existence of the Coalition of sentient species. All player actions affect what kind of place the Galaxy will be at the end, with the victorious Coalition that managed to overcome its enemies or with a collapsed alliance from both external Dominator and internal pirate pressures.

The game has received a major technical overhaul in addition to the addition of new content. All of the main menu, loading screens, planet and space station vistas were reworked. Now you can choose a display resolution of up to 1920×1200 and planetary battles employ modern render technologies.

No, it’s a HD remake of Space Rangers 2 and includes SR2: Reboot content.

Whew. Okay thanks. I was wondering why anyone would want to buy an HD version of the first game when the second is still available.

And the new stuff

New pirate subplot. After completing any one of the story branches a player can either end the game, or continue playing to complete another branch. the player’s actions influence the entire Galaxy, while the balance in either of wars may be tipped not only by the player, but by AI actions as well. No two playthroughs will be the same.
Major technical overhaul. Display resolutions up to 1920×1200, multi-core processors, Windows® 7, and anti-aliasing in 3D planetary battles are now fully supported.
Extended soundtrack means you’ll hear more than 15 completely new musical themes specially created for deeper immersion into the amazing Space Rangers universe.
Other improvements include more than 10 new text adventures, 15+ planetary battle maps, 20+ government missions, unique non-story events, new equipment and micromodules, access to all hyperspace engagements from the main menu and more!

Hmm. Reading through that FAQ on the official page makes me really leery. I think I’m going to wait for some opinions here.

Yup! ;)

FYI, you put the line “about as close to death at that point as you could get” in the first sentence twice.

Gah, thanks!

Well I picked it up from GMG using the 20% off code as well. So £14 which is more reasonable than £20 rrp. Still no sign of it on steam but it has installed fine. Now off to play a bit.

No other game has done this better. Looking at those items just makes you go I WANTS IT! (again)
As an experienced SR2 player, even if its been a while, I think item number 2 from the top right is new.

I know, right? All the pretties…

I agree, that appears to be a new item. Also, Myoplasmic items didn’t incur a speed penalty as described in the help balloon in SR2. I suspect they’ve done some tinkering with the modifiers.

Huh, so apparently there was some sort of unofficial add-on for the game called Revolution that added even more items and stuff, and that’s all included in the HD version as well, according to sources. According to a comment on my post:

Yes it includes all items from revolution + some new items from pirate fraction and other stuff like secret hull

Wow, okay, apparently most of the new features I mentioned are from the Revolution expansion pack:

Most features in your review are from Revolution, your touch so few HD attributes. Like new weapons, secret corpus, how to play on pirate side, how to contact girls agents and etc

Ugh. :(

What kind of operation do you have running there, Brian! Geez. It’s not enough that you can be our resident space game expert here on the forums, you also have to have a perfect website with exclusive coverage/interviews.

j/k Thanks for the hard work all around. :)
