I doubt this will ever happen, at least not until after a Last of Us 2 sells a boatload of copies. It's just not a big enough license for anything other than, say, a cheap shoot in Eastern Europe (Ratchet & Clank is a bigger property and you can see how that got passed over to a pretty low-rent animation studio). Also the sourcing for this story is odd. Just a comment from Screen Gems to Deadline? Why wasn't this announced in the trades?
At any rate, it sounds like it's just Screen Gems optioning the rights in collaboration with Raimi's production company. You can usually ignore these sorts of announcements until names start getting attached to an actual production.
I sure hope they don't sign Uwe Boll as director.
