I’m surprised to hear that. Stadia only works on a very limited number of devices, all of which support VP9, so I assumed it was a requirement.
I guess at some point they want Stadia to run on iOS, that could explain it.

All I can say is that performance was hot garbage on a device which supported hw accelerated h264 but not vp9, while perfect[0] on a device that supported vp9.
[0] Perfect as in I could not have told the difference between streaming and playing locally on my gaming PC.

Video game platform tribalism is weird, yo.

Tribalism in general, really. Makes no sense to me.

If you claim a “free” Pro game and downgrade to Base tier by canceling Pro, that game is unavailable for you to buy. Thanks, Google.
That reads more to me like a paid shill or a subtle troll, lol.

Makes no sense to me. Going from a multiple system setup that let you play a wide variety of games to Stadia in his current state with a smallish collection? Nobody in a gamer mind would do that except if hes trying to abandon de hobby or have huge money problems
I used to be really proud of my Atari XE when all the other kids had Nintendo. It had a keyboard! It had flight simulator!
Meanwhile all my friends were having fun and I had fucking Flight Simulator.

The Atari ST, though, that was a machine.
Ha! The XE could play 400/800 software? I can’t remember?
I really loved my Atari 800XL. Sure, the C64 was better for a bunch of games, but many Atari versions of arcade games were better on there than anywhere else at the time. Robotron with the plastic holder for two Atari joysticks was aces.

Yeah because you really don’t have to get rid of… anything to try and join Stadia. It makes sense. Or about as much sense about him bragging about giving a gaming PC to his wife and then being unhappy people brought up the thing he brought up or… something. The whole spiel is super weird.

If you read further in, when Thumper was free to PS Plus subscribers only 0.2% of them tried it. So if you take that calculation and assume only 0.2% of Stadia users played Thumper, Stadia has 2.9 million members! So… probably not, and the numbers are impossible to extrapolate to anything at all.
We can at least conclude that Thumper is not a ‘killer app’ that sells subs. Google needs to try harder.

I’m sure they would if they could. One thing I think you can extrapolate from the data is that Google is not getting any meaningful third-party support.
stusser
1868
There’s no real extrapolation required to come to that conclusion, the evidence directly supports it!
Google doesn’t care about Stadia. They aren’t spending money to buy customers, so they don’t have any. We’ll see if that changes with the “real” launch of the free version.

Maybe they updated the article, but right now it’s saying that Thumper was only a PS Plus game in Asia/Pacific countries not globally. So the denominator is not 34M but some smaller number that we can only guess at.

Ahh, yes, they must have updated it.
There’s a bit of a cold civil war going on on the Stadia reddit right now, between the people who are increasingly disillusioned with how Google have handled Stadia so far, and the people who are going to any lengths to handwave complaints with pleas to be patient.
Closing in on 50 days since the last new game was added to the service, and there’s only two games with confirmed dates at the moment - some Monster Energy-branded racing game I’ve never heard of in February, and Doom Eternal in March.

OK, that makes sense. I was wondering when it was on PS Plus and I missed it. I’ve been wanting to check out Thumper and would have jumped on the opportunity to try it through PS+.
