Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

New thread because the previous one didn't have the proper game title!

PAX new video!

Yeah, I could not watch that on account of the fanboy crowd going cray cray every few seconds.

Maybe I’ll mute it and try again.

#3

The crowd cheering is clearly excessive, but also I consider it kind of endearing and cool how something like a “video game in development” can rise up passions like sports or old traditions.

#4

I watched that live last night, and it was a bit rough with the game crashing multiple times. Still, the game looks to have lots of potential.

#5

I think the fanboy cheering is a great metaphor for the game. We’re seriously drifting into Star Wars Episode One territory here and it has me really worried for the game.

Can’t wait to try dogfighting. :)

#7

As usual in these games, I find the weapons effect and stuff to be way to pew pew-y, I liked Elite’s better, but maybe these are early versions…

#8

They’re…both…very early versions dude. What?

#9

I liked elites a lot better as well, as well as the handling. Elite has real weight behind its ships, inertia and mass, where this looks…very gamey so far.

#10

So you’ve played the dogfighting then?

#11

That’s all I got out of it, but we know the danger with potential. Kinda concerting just how unstable it was, and how much unfinished. I wouldn’t bring anything like that to an E3 or trade show. Also, i hope you can skip the “walk out to your fighter” thing, cause that will get old, fast. It’s troubling that the most cheers was for a helmet animation.

#12

We are talking about reactions to the video. Obviously, its going to be compared to the other game that is coming out.

#13

Alcohol has that effect.

I only managed a couple of minutes before hitting mute, but it looks promising - certainly a lot more polished than the livestream they did back in December. Would have been nice to hear what Chris was saying about the new features.

#14

Where was this? Was there a booth for Star Citizen that I didn’t see? Or was this the game people were playing at the Logitech booth? I was thinking the latter, but never checked.

#15

Well. Compare this to mechwarrior online, those weapons have punch and power behind them, what was displayed in this demo was tiny pulses that didn’t impress me one bit.

#16

All I see is horrible screen tearing.

#17

This game is pretty much tops on my radar now, since PGI totally boned the Mechwarrior franchise into the ground.

#18

Oh you are one of those… why am I not surprised…

#19

The laser and missile sound effects need to be beefed up. I hope those aren’t final as they sound really lame/tame. I know they can’t copy Star Wars, but they need to emulate that more. The machine gun (kinetic gun) sounded fantastic and the game looks really amazing so far. Can’t wait!!!

It’s funny, just looked at an Elite vid and this one, it seems we will have a choice between The Brown Spaceship Game and The Grey Spaceship Game :)

It does worry me a little bit about this, that the control of the ship and being able to actually shoot at anything seems a bit frustrating-looking. It would be a shame to end up with a game that looks and feels all kind of awesome, and has such incredible attention to detaill, but is a bitch to control or pew pew with.
