Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

That’s weird. The fourteen days thing seems to be a nod to the distance selling rules, but pretty much every downloadable software seller makes you effectively waive that right (as they’re allowed to do). Don’t know if CIG did, but it would be very silly if they didn’t.

That said, it’s fourteen days from delivery, and unless the JPEG buying was literally that (ie no promise of an actual ship in future), then they haven’t delivered yet.

Yeah, I’m confident that you could get a refund if you were dedicated to doing so.

Yeah it’s bullshit. Their 14-day “no refund” nonsense will never hold up in arbitration if challenged.

The issue is that they are being vague. This is the first time they’ve gone on record saying no refund after 14 days. Some people were saying that it was because this person asked for a partial refund, which shouldn’t make a difference anyway. I guess he had a fight with them because in his update they said they would give him a full refund.

I just checked my Kickstarter and I gave them thirty dollars. I am going to plant a flag on that and wait for the inevitable postcard in the mail telling me I am part of the class action.

14 days seems in violation of UK distance selling laws.

Not in itself, no. In fact, UK (and indirectly EU) distance selling laws are the only reason I can think of for giving the 14 days at all.

As I said above, though, the 14 day thing doesn’t normally apply to digital sales, and as soon as you download you lose the right to cancel in most online stores.

Oh, I thought it was longer than that.

And I’d forgotten about the digital aspect.

So why 14 days? What a strange situation.

Edit: You are a lawyer!!

Nope.

On the internet, everyone is a lawyer.

Your words say ‘nope’ but your avatar says ‘objection!’.

So… You ANAL?

I love that avatar!
Don’t you ever change it, @Ginger_Yellow.

Absolutely. And this is not advice. Just a tip.

I see what you did there.

Man, @dsmart is about to have some serious egg on his face. CIG is about to release the fabled v3.0 release to the initial customer test environments. So many fully realized new pieces of functionality, so many blocking issues fixed.

Or, instead of fixing the blocking issues they just recategorized them to not blocking and they stripped out basically all the new content.

On the plus side, they have been doing motion capture for multiple different Air Traffic Control AIs so all of the different places you can’t actually visit will have custom ATC experiences that you can’t visit.

I know, it’s hilarious. They’ve been stripping stuff from 3.0 since the Sept 8th update, under the guise of releasing a subset to Evocati, piece by piece. In fact, now that you mention the totally-not-feature-creep ATC nonsense, I just wrote a post about it, complete with transcript. It’s amazing that anyone left with a pulse, thinks there will EVER be a “game” coming from this.

We currently live in a culture where investment equals belief, with the corresponding refusal to acknowledge obvious truths

Is @Ryan_Kelly still carrying the torch?

(I’m not asking out of snark, I love hearing his contrarian views on the Star Citizen project)

He hasn’t been around for a bit. Not sure if he feels like he’s been pounded on, as that would be sad. His contrarian views, while woefully and hilariously misguided, are a welcome counter to the lols.
