Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Just based on the way that it works though, I don’t see the sale of ships as being quite the same component of the economy that the sale of PLEX in EvE is though.

In EvE, there’s a constant drain on things, because when your ship gets blown up, it’s blown up. You gonna spend resources to get a new ship.

In SC, while there are certainly costs associated with dying, the ship itself isn’t really one of them. Once you get a ship, you got it forever, with just some minimal insurance fees when you recover a destroyed ship.

I think a lot of the ship purchasing is more of a feature of this early stage, most of which lacked the ability to purchase ships in game.

But at this point, you can buy those ships in-game, using in-game currency. And the prices are seemingly in line with ships in say, EvE, in terms of the time required to earn the cash for them.

What’s sad is having spent tens of millions of dollars and being at “this point in development” right now.

Tens? :)

Well, that’s optimistic. The rest lined his pockets.

Eh, I’d be worried that a dreadfully unbalanced gameworld at launch would poison the well so that there wouldn’t be much “ongoing.” But as I know next to nothing about how SC actually works/will work, it’s possible none of this matters much.

If there’s a way to do offline single player, game balance may not matter too much at first. If it’s multiplayer-only it could be an issue, but I think what will happen is guilds will arise and players will flock to them, and the whales with the expensive ships may enjoy protecting the weaker players in their guilds.

Anyway, just getting to where they need to worry about game balance because there’s an actual game would be a minor triumph at this point.

Minor? Hell, it’ll be the equivalent of Leonidas winning and surviving Thermopylae.

So any news on SQ42?

Maybe they could sell a JPEG of the game box and I could play it in the hangar.

Hahahaha. No. There is no news.

I guess with Star Citizen, no news is good news, as the alternatively is probably that the company has folded, they cancelled it, or something equally shitty.

I’d bet that the original video scenes they made in ~2014 have to be re shot, or re-licensed due to some time running out before relase of the game, or other snafu. Maybe they’ll pull a Rockstar and patch the game at some point and remove one of the characters because they are no longer licensed to show them in the game.

So this “game” is still very much broken. Even in a party, in the same instance, my partner couldn’t see me at all. And then this happened:

In the future, polite space pirates will just be paying passengers who wait for the pilot to clip through the ship.

idspispopd.

Is Derek OK?

Is that a reference to DF making a analysis video based on in-house/developer access to parts of the executables that would at some point have made up a game if one was being made, or has SC been released and Derek was wrong all along, or just worried about the Corona? :-)

Derek Smart is usually here with updates

I believe he said at some point last year that he’s moved on since there’s not much to talk about new.

Geez Brian, everyone KNOWS you don’t open the ship door in hyperspace!!

Hey nothing happened it’s fine it’s fiiiiiinnnneee

I got an exciting email titled Squadron 42 update from RSI. Surely they wouldn’t spam me over no progress?
