Well, I remember telling you that I-War 2 and Sword of the Stars were awesome, you doubted me, and when you played them properly, you found they were indeed awesome, did you not? ;)
HEATHEN!
Novalogics Tachyon the Fringe with Bruce Campbell is the best space game ever.
Wait, why are we talking about finished, playable, fun space games? Isn’t this the Star Citizen thread? ;)
Watching Brian try to play privateer 2 was WAY better than privateer 2.
Good call :)
I tried firing up PU to play my RSI Constellation. Going through the abomination that is the elevator-loading screen (or what the hell it is) I was told there wasn’t any room. Back to the hangar and noticed that they redecorated it since last time I “played”. Framerate seemed as terrible as always in the 15-20 range.
Good times.
Bahahahahhaha, glad I entertained you!
Please, I’ve put DOZENS of hours into Privateer 2, I already clearly know it’s an utter pile of dogshit. Those other cases, I clearly hadn’t had enough time with the game.
In this particular case, I’m not telling Privateer 2 is good. I’m just saying I liked it, more than I liked Tachyon. Now, it’s possible that if I replay Tachyon, I’ll like it more this time. Who knows? It’s also possible that if I replay Privateer 2, I’ll find it is as terrible as you say it is.
But back then, I liked it. I still remember it fondly. That’s all :)
BTW, remind me to never mention that I really liked the demo of Darklight Conflict back in the day. ;)
GAH WHAT THE HELL MAN? (asks the man who owns it on disk)
(Did he say “Star Control 3”??)

At least he didn’t say Outpost.
From a few pages back:
Sounds in the vacuum of space will be simulated by a computer module aboard your ship. Like any other component, the module can be powered down or destroyed, at which point you would only hear local noises within your pressurized cabin. This could create interesting gameplay scenarios, as an unfortunate shot could effectively render you deaf in the midst of combat. This also means that you can manually switch off the module for complete immersion. A member of the audio team has said that they are working on a distinct soundscape for EVA.
Star Citizen could be more accurately described as a super-detailed rivet counter’s dream of a Space Opera sim, seeing as how it features stuff like artificial gravity, warp drives, “blaster” projectiles instead of laser beams, and aesthetics prioritized over aerodynamics.

Outpost was a couple years earlier. But it did eat one of my very first paycheques. :(
The sound thing sounds cool. I hope they implement it.
However, remember when they said they’d simulate accelleration and G-forces for crew and cargo? Well…

You run the risk of having your space credentials suspended.

I enjoy the fact now that fans will be furious about things getting cut so they can actually ship a game. When you promise the moon, and don’t deliver it, people will be pissed. I just want the game. People complaining about not having to have cargo strapped down? I don’t care about that… release the space flying shooty game for me to play!

The notion of killing people by not tying down your cargo and then pulling heavy G’s while they are in your ship is amusing to me.
“Hey, why are there just a bunch of anvils sitting back here in the cargo hold?”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Anyway, This isn’t a feature I really cared much about. Certain aspects of the universe immersion are cool to me. Simulating having to strap down cargo isn’t really that fun to me.
At some point, it may play a bigger role with the large capital ships, although I believe their maneuverability is limited to the extent that it wouldn’t even be able to really throw people around inside.
Y’all are just furthering the unjust campaign of hate against the very honorable Star Control 3. It might not have been the sequel people wanted, but it was a ton of fun! (I also might have gone back and played it through way more times than SC2, but we’re just going to quietly ignore that fact)
