<looks like I got my prices wrong. I blame man flu and a mushy brain. Ignore me>

For those who haven’t had a reason to jump in yet, I’d advise waiting. If you waited this long, it’s much safer to wait a while longer and see how things go.

Put the $45 in an index fund and it’ll probably be worth a lot more than $60 by the time this game ships.

I’ll do the free weekend 1 month before the servers shut down.

But if no new blood comes in (surely the whales are all beached by now right?) then how will i ever get to play Squadron42, they need to keep funding the actors!

The actors most likely got fully paid in advance, because I don’t think they’d take the job otherwise. In that case, funding is only necessary for the rest of the game. ;)

Valentine promo: it seems that current backers can now buy a second copy of Star Citizen + Squadron 42 to gift to someone else, for only US$ 40! A fantastic US$ 5 discount!

That’s 10% off, mind you!

Second behind only a mop in ‘passive aggressive gifts to tell your significant other you hate them’.

There’s no mixed message in giving your significant other a product mired in scandal and allegations of broken promises.

Interesting reading the SC forum comments to their February “flair” (for their “subscribers”.)
I think the one word I would use to describe it would be: Madness

Got a link? You mean flair like free bits of cosmetic stuff like virtual stickers and badges for virtual helmets and jumpsuits and such guff?

Looking through the comments there, it is no surprise the game has cost 100m and is nowhere near complete.

… What? They have a monthly subscription thing? That gives you cosmetic whatsits in a game that doesn’t exist? And in-game funny money in a game that doesn’t exist?

Oh, nevermind. If you’re subscribed at $10 a month for 12 months you get a 10% off code for the cash shop. That’ll really add up on one of those $14,000 ship preorders, you’d be a fool NOT to subscribe!

I really hope there’s a team already working on the documentary - good or bad out outcome it’s really an interesting story.

Presented without comment.

Some of the seemingly more pragmatic posters seem to be saying sq42’s story will most likely be mediocre.

I bet EA would love to hire the persons who came up with these customer bilking strategies.

The cosmetic whatsits currently exist in the Hangar module, and the in-game funny money currently can be used to purchase weapons for Arena Commander and the Baby-PU. The official purpose of community subscriptions is to fund the various weekly and monthly behind-the-scenes productions put together by the community management team (hence the label “community subscribers”).

The story will probably just be a generic imitation of popular Space Operas if Roberts’ past works are any indication.

Dude, have you seen Wing Commander?

To be fair, the WC 1-3 games were alright for the times, but generic as hell. WC4, on the other hand, had a very decent story (not exactly well told, :P, but a decent story nonetheless).

The film is something else entirely, though. Unmitigated disaster doesn’t start to do it justice.

If the Gary Oldman speech is any indication, I wouldn’t expect good writing at all. It’s hard to say if the story will be any good, though; what I’ve read of the setting of the game doesn’t make me particularly intrigued, but it is possible that there might be a good story in the end. It’s just unlikely, not impossible.
