I’m talking specifically about the multi-crew ships that promise crew module gameplay like cooperative mining or farming.

Laughing out loud.

Not to mention that their second Kickstarter gained 2m credits based on how awesome the first was and the goodwill associated with what Sven and co. delivered.

Look on the bright side, by 2020 we can run CryEngine 4 games with 60 fps! :)

Raises hand

Over the holidays my brother, with whom I have had a longstanding problem of finding multiplayer games that we both like and can play, enthusiastically recommended this game which he’d already been playing (not sure how much). I flew back home, bought the game almost sight unseen and after virtually ignoring the skepticism in this thread, fired it up and within five minutes realized what an enormous mistake I’d just made.

It seems it was mentioned in a Reverse the Verse episode. Here’s a thread on the official forums about it.

Here’s a link to the relevant part in the cited episode: https://youtu.be/t3IFegeJ61w?t=1725

I didn’t mean to imply equivalence! But, yeah, you do get a whole mess of plastic toys in that giant box when you waste your money on Cthulhu Wars. I’ll gladly concede that’s way better than getting a jpg of a spaceship for the same amount of money.

So are all in game assets jpgs? Or just ones that aren’t in game yet?
Like, when i originally got my 300i, it wasn’t in the game. But now it is, and i can fly it around. So is it still “a jpg”?

I am quite amazed that you consider that you “got” anything at all. Astounded actually.

Troll post is trolly

Not trolly. Am actually quite suprised at the choice of your word “got”. Did you actually consider yourself getting a product when they “delivered” the hanger?

Because that was your response to Tom’s remark. That you got something and later it could actually fly.

What I read from Tom’s point was that the backers had been delivered nothing that was promised thus far. And thus got a very raw deal.

Ben Lesnick says that it wasn’t until the Endeavor that they looked at schedules and said “this might come out after the beta”. The Endeavor was the 6th to last of the stretch goal ships (and is the home of the infamous farming mechanics). After the Endeavor were the Crucible (repair ship), Vanguard (heavy fighter), Espera Prowler (alien boarding craft), Genesis Starliner (commercial airliner), and MISC Reliant (cargo hauler starter ship). The Vanguard is already flyable and the Reliant is expected to be hangar-ready in Alpha 2.4 and possibly flyable the patch afterwards as was the case with the Khartu-Al. You can expect those two ships to be ready by 1.0.

He says that everything through 2015 would probably come afterwards. I don’t know if that means announced through 2015 (which wouldn’t include stretch goal ships) or first sold through 2015 (which would). I think it would be a bad gesture to ship the game without all of the stretch goal ships.

Would be helpful if we can get an infographic showing the percentage of backers who turned sceptics vs believers in relation to the amount they had put in so far. Based on solid data.

Hypothesis right now is that a lot of the heavily “invested” people are now true “captive audience” and is rationalizing the trends seen thus far.

Conversely, the reverse may be true also, that skeptics get more entrenched in their positions the more they “invest” in warning fellow gamers from the perspective they are coming from.

Agreed, but I think it’s more than a bit likely at this point. But we’ll see.

Err, but they have delivered part of what was promised.

It’s not like you still only have a hangar at this point. You can fly them around, engage in combat, complete missions, etc.

If I could even download it.

The next Elite installment?

It’s such a load of rubbish isn’t it. I mean why argue over it.

$110 million bucks selling moon rocks.

I’ll read the post mortem in a decade or so.

2016.04.13 - The MISC Prospector Concept sale will go live on April 22nd, 2016 for the introductory price of $140.
2016.04.19 - The MISC Starfarer Gemini is now $340, to match the recent increase in the standard Starfarer.
2016.04.19 - The MISC Reliant Kore will increase to $65 when it becomes Hangar Ready.

Love how ‘Hangar Ready’ is a big enough deal to raise prices.

That’s important since it is no longer just a jpg.
