Given that this game has been in development for… what is it, 4 years now or something like that? I find it weird that they can still sell ships that aren’t even “hangar ready”.

I could see stuff like that as backer rewards in a Kickstarter pitch, but the fact that there are ships that aren’t “hangar ready” in Q2 2016 would concern me.

Now it’s an animated gif.

Well, some of those ships were fairly recently conceptualized, so as they continue to create ship concepts, their completion date would presumably be further out.

Here’s a spreadsheet that is a few months old that lists the status of a bunch of ships.

Crazy idea…but maybe stop making more ships and put in the effort to finish the game.

TBF, it’s not like the artists concepting out jpegs for sale are going to be a massive help in coding the simulation or designing gameplay scenarios or any of the other disciplines involved in “finishing the game.”

Wait a minute, it’s a game? I thought it was a Dutch tulip market sim.

Everything about this whole affair seems rather bloated…

Not when the new ships come with new game concepts.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Prospector is fast-tracked to be ready by 1.0, seeing as how mining is supposed to be a major career path and it would be prohibitive if the only ship available is a giant multi-crew strip miner.

In terms of ships announced post-2014, you have the Prospector, the Polaris Corvette, the Aegis Sabre, and the Drake Buccaneer. The Prospector is the only non-combat ship out of that bunch; the rest fit into the existing game concept of shooting things and killing them.

Are the art assets needed for the base game to be v1.0 mostly complete? It isn’t a rhetorical question, I have no idea.

Heh, fair enough.

Boy do I ever have no freaking idea. And I have no clue how RSI/Cloud Imperium have their art department structured; it could be that there are “finish the damn game” tasks that the ship-concepting folks could be doing instead. I’d be kinda surprised, though. Often (generally? Not like I have numbers on hand) artists are specialized enough that pulling a concept artist onto, idk, doing detail work to finish up cockpit interiors to release quality would be a silly thing to do given time to train in on tools/process/etc.

This is me totally talking out of my rear end, just to be extra clear. I mostly just want to fire back in general at the idea that game artists/designers/developers are fungible resources that can be plugged into whatever task needs completing this week.

Isn’t the Endeavor a 2015 ship? That one does come with a boatload of game concepts though!

A big concern I have with the continual stream of new concept ships is as soon as they have some .jpg’s and flavor text RSI just can’t stop themselves from selling it. And once customers have bought ships, typically for nontrivial amounts of money, there’s an expectation created that they’ll be able to fly as soon as the PU reaches V1.0. So each new ship is an increase in dev time… even before factoring in any new game concepts.

I provide support for complex systems and a vital fundamental I pound into new trainees is the importance of establishing parameters for what is going to be worked on right now. Otherwise, it’s too easy to meander from topic to topic without ever accomplishing anything. RSI shows all the signs of a poorly defined scope for their activities.

The Endeavor was announced in the $56m stretch goal letter on October 7th, 2014 and unlocked as the $57m stretch goal on October 14th, 2014.

. . . the main compartment is centered on a large research laboratory which can be configured for use by a wide range of scientific disciplines.

It was essentially a blank check that had to be filled later down the line with something. It wasn’t until the concept sale that they announced what the configurations were.

What’s Derek Smart saying about it these days?

He’s saying that May 31st will mark an Extinction Level Event for Star Citizen. According to him, it’s the final date for a “release” according to the ToS, after which CIG would be forced to provide financial accounting to backers.

He’s wrong, of course (about the meaning of the date and the enforcement of that particular clause), but there are assorted rumors about a number of things that might mean rough times for CIG in or around that date, so for now the recommendation is the same as usual - wait and see.

I wouldn’t be worried (or excited) about his predictions, mind you. I’m just answering your question.

I’m personally more concerned about the expiration date on the gallon of milk in the fridge, but I find amusing to sit back and watch the internets version of Jersey Shore from time to time.

They should have better cognizance of what’s going on and not be selling more crap. While I don’t care if it takes them 2 more years to release this (better late than broken), asking for more money with more expensive ships is in very poor taste with the amount of money they have. It is really killing my interest in the game.

Thanks! Has the hospital ship or research lab gameplay been mapped out? Seems there are many concepts out there that need fleshing out. I don’t see how they can give the Endeavor drivers anything to do till maybe 2018.
