SQ42 is indeed planned to have FPS sections. It still isn’t certain if the “2016” in the CitizenCon trailer implies an official launch; they intentionally left it vague. My guess is that they will release a vertical slice by the end of the year, similar to what Obsidian initially did for Pillars of Eternity.

While that video is obviously hilariously buggy, I will go ahead and add that the footage was captured from the latest PTU build of Alpha 2.4. The PTU is limited to a select group of testers because it is considered too buggy to be enjoyed by the majority of backers. 2.4 marks the first time FPS combat is allowed inside a ship, as previously anyone inside a ship’s physics grid was rendered invulnerable. Additionally, 2.4 serves as a debut for the Starfarer, which is the ship they are fighting on.

Bugs aside, the real limitation on achieving enjoyable FPS combat in Star Citizen Alpha right now is the current absence of grenades and gadgets, weapon attachments, and a fully fleshed out health system.

You know, i’m really rooting for SC, a huge fan of Chris Roberts other games (wing commander etc), but why? As in why is this project as it is? Money can’t be the issue (can it?), talent (a dev with a great CV)? So what the hell…why?!!

Absolute power corrupts absolutely?

Mismanagement. Also there’s no incentive to actually launch when selling pretend ship models makes more money. If they actually released and it isn’t the best thing ever, people will stop buying the pretend ships.

You’re kidding, right? The lack of ‘grenades, gadgets, weapon attachments, and a fully fleshed out health system’ is the only thing holding that back? I mean sure you said ‘bugs’, but it’s easier to label the components that aren’t buggy (the UI looked pretty solid I guess?) than the ones that are. How the hell can you determine that those elements are the only thing holding back ‘enjoyable FPS combat’ when basic things like shot and hit effects are still missing?

meeper, may I interest you in some refreshing Kool Aid?

That’s totally unfair. They also had some cool fonts and pretty graphics.

haha ironic! I just finished a bottle of water with this in it:

Too funny!

I know games ok, I play lots of games. I play more games than anyone. Star Citizen is a great game, it’s got more Stars and Citizens than any other game. If you want to play the best game, you play Star Citizen. Everyone knows that.

By actually playing the Alpha. Shot and hit effects were added a long time ago. They’re bugged in the 2.4 PTU, I don’t know if in general or just aboard a ship’s interior physics grid. Just like how death ragdolls were added a long time ago, but are bugged in the 2.4 PTU while aboard a ship’s interior physics grid.

If I’m drinking Kool Aid, then you guys are the blind men and Star Citizen is your elephant.

At least the elephant is on schedule.

Elephant is an interesting choice of words :)

Wait. Impressions made a space trading simulator in 1996??

They sure did, and it’s surprisingly great!

Us blind people can’t see that it’s white.

Wow… well at least the door open/close and climbing animations look ok. :)

Maybe Chris should just buy that, rebrand it as Star Citizen and sell that?

(half-joking)

Except that with 4 years and $110 million to work with, I’m pretty sure we’d have that elephant by now. :)

So CIG was scheduled to present something about Star Citizen and Squadron 42 on E3’s PC Gaming Show, which will happen in mid June.

However, Polygon reports that they will not show up anymore, allegedly because Chris Roberts and crew are too busy now with Squadron 42.

Also, remember those F2P games where you have to wait X minutes before you can recover a life or something, or pay in-game credits to recover it immediately?

Well…
