Last I checked, a quarterpounder with cheese is $3.79 and you can actually eat it.
What the hell are you talking about?
So, the end of the known universe thing… Is that bad? Don’t all games have an end or loop around or something?
Well I suppose it forces them to take a stance on the geometry of the universe, which is bound to piss off one or another group of space nerds depending on which way they go.
That may be, but I’m still missing your point, sir.
So… is this ever coming out?
Technically, yes, but only as a fully playable arcade game within Grimoire.
I’m thinking it has maybe a 2021 release date. Maybe. Hopefully. Wishfully…
Many games do, yes, but Star Citizen promised to be “seamless”, and “edge of the universe” warnings do not go well with “seamless”.
For the record, older games and games with far smaller budgets implement seamless space - Evochron Legends and I-War 2 are two such examples.
“Seamless” just means to me that there are no visible level loads or transitions between areas. (I have no idea how Star Citizen handles that stuff.) I figured the galaxy in Star Citizen had some kind of edge or end to it. I figured it either had that kind of hard end, or it would generate stuff procedurally after the hand-crafted area.
Either way, I don’t think it’s a big deal. There’s plenty of stuff to point and laugh at Star Citizen.
Kind of what I think too. Of all the things to carp about, this one is very minor. Get the game out in playable shape and then worry about expanding the borders.
But a “seamless” universe requires certains approaches in terms of engine and gameplay. I’m fine with Star Citizen having the kind of approach it seems to have now - what I’m not fine with is claiming you’re one thing when you’re not.
Then again, who knows what Star Citizen will be? I guess not even Chris Roberts does at this point.

I almost forgot that I have a stake in this game. I stupidly pledge at the time when they still promise the single player Squadron something. That’s still in their plan, right?
It’s Squadron 42, and yes, still in their plans. First episode is theoretically coming out in 2016, but I find that to be extremely unlikely. We’ll see.
Hahahahaha yeah, if it does come out, it’ll be on 12/31 and consist of tutorial missions only, just so they can say they released it.
Yeah no way SQ42 is out this year. They still ain’t shown shit except for a very expensive intro cut scene.
Do you have a quote where they promised endless solar system boundaries? As far as I recall, any instance where they’ve used the word “seamless” has been to describe planetary landings.
On a related note, Roberts says that these seamless planetary landings will be included in Alpha 2.7 before the end of the year. We’re currently on Alpha 2.4. It seems like new information regarding Squadron 42 will wait until Gamescom in August.
