Star Citizen Evocati Turmoil

The arrogance of defeat @ 41:08

…it’s been just over five years since we first announced Star Citizen at GDC in Austin on Oct 10th, which was two days ago. And it’s incredible to think how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time, and only been possible because you’ve supported us along the way

Oh my god! I clicked on your link Derek and…

I never knew he was British! (That’s the first time I’ve heard him speak). All this time I thought he was a typical Austin-esque guy!

It’s like they’re intentionally trolling their own community :)

Shockingly, in the latest newsletter Chris has declared that the December anniversary stream will showcase Squadron 42. Which means it’s not releasing in 2017. I called this one back in May. Now that it has no release date showing on the website, safe to say that it will either be canceled, or will be part of the early access change that Star Citizen is about to enter. Which means they don’t have to deliver it or Star Citizen. Ever.

Note that no public dev schedule exists for SQ42, and it hasn’t been seen since Q4/2015. This early announcement is about cash flow. They are aware that 3.0 is a complete disaster thus far, and CitizenCon is only 2 weeks away. They have nothing left to hype.

You can’t make this shit up even if you tried.

Get a refund, fool!

Maybe SQ42 will release in December 2017. It could be like a Christmas Miracle. :)

Cool. I’ve been waiting to see more of it. The announcement mentions they will detail the new SQ42 roadmap during the demo. We’ll see what’s what or what might be what if they can stick to their schedule then.

You are aware that their road maps are always meaningless, right?

That, I’m not going to argue. So far, they have been more like vague statements of intent and hope. :)

But they have been at SQ42 behind the scenes for a while. So it will still be interesting to see what’s going on.

Indeed. And whatever it is, I am sure that it will be utterly hilarious. :)

Meanwhile over on /r/games, as of this writing, this post had almost 500 upvotes.

"As I’ve pointed out before, back in January 2015, Roberts delivered a presentation in which he claimed that not only would the first episode of Squadron 42 be released by Fall 2015, but the full commercial release - meaning SQ42 and the persistent universe / MMO - would happen by the end of 2016. He made this claim at 1:32:06 in this video.

At the time of this presentation, the PU wasn’t yet in the alpha stage. He seemed to think that his team could get through all of alpha, get through all of beta, and optimize enough for a decent MMO launch in 2 years, all while concurrently working on a single-player game. By saying this, he demonstrated that he either didn’t know what he was talking about, or he was being dishonest. It was probably a combination of the two._

Now, almost 3 years after that presentation, backers still haven’t seen a mission demo of SQ42, and the MMO is in alpha with, I’m guessing, another 1-2 years of alpha ahead of them. At this rate, I would be impressed if the first episode of SQ42 gets released by 2020, and the MMO gets released by 2023_."

Today’s Evocati leak. It’s hilarious. As are the comments. Oh do stay for the comments!

Thanks for the link.

Sounds janky and alpha. But at the same time, it sounds like there is enough stuff in 3.0 that I’m looking forward to flying around, exploring the new destinations and trying out my ships.

Give it a few more weeks and it sounds like I’ll have some fun with it during the Christmas holidays.

I have played it. A few more weeks just isn’t going to cut it. And they know this. It needs at least another 4 months to be in any condition for wide release. But they’re probably not going to hold on to it.

It’s hilarious that this past Summer, both Gamestar.de and PC Gamer claimed to have “played” 3.0. It’s curious that CIG didn’t release that version. Which is why the games media simply can’t be trusted. Here is the PC Gamer write up that later went to print.

What about sataball Derek Derek Derek?

I understand hedging bets and such, but I don’t get why ‘probably’ is still being bantered about regarding SQ42 and ‘2017’. Personally, I doubt ‘probably’ and ‘2018’ go together unless you also include “will miss by a wide margin”

Would be nice if they at least did show Squadron 42 in december, it is what interests me the most about this project. Since there is, you know, nobody else making AAA storydriven singleplayer space sim shooter.

ftfy? :)

Seriously though, I sure hope SQ42 does come out in some capacity other than minimum viable product. All the better if it lacks the FPS elements ‘promised’.

I wonder how long it would take Frontier to build a story campaign around their engine if they decided they wanted to sell a new box for $50.

What do you consider to be a “AAA story driven singleplayer space sim shooter”?
