Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Yes - it truly is.

Well, to be fair, if it took a 20$ stream to make “those” people “outraged” over SC - now in 2018 - they pretty much deserve some bonus insults - for free. The only correct reaction is to shrug your shoulders, shake your head, and carry on watching the 190m$ stream that is Star Citizen *.everything.

The point to be pitchforking would’ve been back in 2014-2015, by now it should only be wasteland of burned carcasses - that you could fly over in your Andromeda.

This is pretty much how I feel, I’m just not awake/caffeinated enough to express it as well. Thank you.

My point is that Chris Roberts has been so absurdly obnoxious throughout the whole process - so self-absorbed and dismissive of others - that I absolutely fail to understand the support he got. Are people really that blind? They are, aren’t they?

And the reply I was going to write to this becomes topical again, so I can still do it! You can’t really disassociate the amount from how it was gotten, otherwise it would never be anywhere near it. The point at which anyone could (and should) have stopped going into fundraising insanity (and chosen reasonable features) is long gone, and this stream fee was completely inevitable at this point for their money needs.

Of course, by charging people, it helps build a passionate audience to watch the streams. Most likely haters aren’t going to pay $20 to find and point out issues and only the fans will be there.

I doubt there’s much thought behind it beyond “we need more money and our JPEG sales are slowing down”

No surprise, really, although this Croberts quote is gold:

“Of course, me being me, wanted more.”

Natch.

Well that was quick

‘Chalk this one up to experience.’

By experience he means inexperience? Or does he mean he used his experience in creating controversies to create yet another one?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Stop. I can’t breathe!

Gee. Zus. Christmas.

I imagine a poor messenger informing Roberts of the fan outrage and refusal to cough up more money whilst Lord Roberts feasts in his manor. Eyes bulging, grease dribbling down his chin as he slams a meaty fist on the table and shouts “Preposterous!”, chunks of duck and spittle flying from his mouth.

Has anyone ever seen Donald Trump and Chris Roberts in the same place, at the same time? Just sayin’.

It’s all about money. Once again, he planned something that he blew the budget on. Then he tried to get backers to pay for the excess. That’s all there is to it. Had he not reversed, it would have tainted the event from now right to Oct 10th. He had to make a choice.

Meanwhile, we’re 3K up votes into yet another thread about the latest fiasco

I think this is an important event, because it all happened so transparently, and it gives some real insight into how this nearly $200 mil project is being managed and can lead to some real questions about the capability to manage such a project.

It does give one pause to think, ok so what else have they not been budget conscious about? what else have they decided to just off load on the supporters? It is possible people will begin to eye waste more, which I know you have been harping on for a long time.

Also, as time is rolling on, even though he is the face, we are seeing more and more that Roberts does not appear to be actively involved in the day to day planning and execution of the technical aspects of this project, (the building of the software), and that makes me wonder how separated that process is from the project decision brass. This can lead to all sorts of dysfunction between groups.

The tech weenies may try to talk with the project brass as little as possible, because they have found it counter productive and stressful.
