Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Derek here is just trying to distract you all from the fact that amazing things are happening in the Star Citizen Universe.

Join the entire world for Chris Robert’s thrilling finale at 8 PM next wednesday for the ‘Road to Release’ which he is sure to end with a mic drop showing the fact that every kickstarter pledge and then some has been fulfilled on their secret internal branch!

Are we there yet?

Funny how they have just enough deferred income to be balance sheet solvent.

Not Star Citizen, but related:

Hello ,

Living in this big, crazy universe of ours is exhilarating and intimidating in equal measure. The stars are bristling with hope and opportunity, yet wallow in danger and uncertainty. But no matter what system you’re in or what planet you’re on, it’s the people and their spirit that truly define the Empire.

I’m Anden Arden. Since taking the reins of Drake Interplanetary, I’ve made it my mission to provide the honest, hardworking people of the UEE with affordable aerospace solutions that empower, provide, and protect.

To that point, we here at Drake are incredibly excited and deeply honored to be sponsoring CitizenCon 2948. As the event fast approaches, we rest assured that you’ll be nothing short of blown away by what we have planned.

Each and every one of us should feel pride in doing our part to build and safeguard a future worth fighting for. And as you do, you have my word that Drake will be there, elevating you to your utmost potential and supporting you every step of the way.

Keep fighting the good fight,

Anden Arden
CEO, Drake Interplanetary

Wut? Stars bristle and wallow in the future?

Is there any actual expectation of news as a result of next week’s event?

Depends on what you mean by news. They will definitely announce new things and show hacked up demos. But they never actually deliver anything that they present. Last year was all about procedurally generated cities. Still missing, still not even vaguely near delivery. Year before was about how Squadron 42 was almost done. Now they refuse to share a schedule for it because it would hurt the developers’ feelings (not joking).

So with CitizenCon the emphasis is on the “con” part!

Oh you noticed, huh?

Pretty much.

One thing that changed recently in the release schedule is that Object Container Streaming (OCS) has been moved forward from 3.5.0 (I think) TO 3.3.0. That puts it up for release in 2018.

It’s a behind the scenes technology that is designed to alleviate the load on servers which is currently causing a lot of performance issues.

Whether it will or not is another question. But I’d imagine this might be mentioned and some of the expected effects demonstrated. It’s not glamorous, but something the players have been waiting for quite a while. And it’s now due out before the end of Q4.

I have really no clue what kind of demos, scheduling announcements or report progresses (if any) for SC and Squadron 42 to expect. Honestly, CitizenCon generates pretty in-engine sequences I enjoy watching. But new features have never felt that relevant to me until they are actually completed and released.

Maybe they are working after a different calendar over there, so, in ~400 years it will be ready?

Still waiting on the casino ship you can visit to gamble real money replete with the high rollers club (only backers who’ve already spent 1,000 USD may enter)

I mean, they moved a bunch of stuff around, but of the actual work items aren’t done even going by their own schedule:

The main OCS task has 5/15 items done. The 3.3 patch is supposed to be out in a few days…

Of course, even if they miraculously delivered it the game would still be a disaster. It’s not a magic bullet for all their pains.

You’ve got that wrong. Money donated in the past is meaningless to them. You have to spend $1000 more dollars from today forward to make it in.

As Metallica once said, “Sad, but true”.
Also, $1,000 is chump change to these guys.

LOL!! I’ve got news for you. In fact, let me just cut and paste from my forum post from this morning.

They’re doing some shifty things atm. Even though BOTH 3.3 and 3.3.5 are train-wrecks, word is that they are planning on merging the two and releasing 3.3.5 instead of 3.3.

The current build is completely and utterly unstable, and completely unplayable. And that’s what they’re planning on releasing week of Oct 10th during CitizenCon. I doubt that they will do this because it will be worse than the 3.0 fiasco. So they will probably defer it to Dec like they did with 3.0.

Meanwhile, back at delusion fountain

new user/low karma - best to just lol and move on

  • Ryzen 7 1700X with a 1070Ti and 32GB RAM
  • 1 client on server instance
  • running around a barren surface with procgen rocks

Yeah, OCS + NBC is totally working

Thing is that, so far, NONE of the new planet stuff has leaked because 3.3.5 NEVER went to Evocati. They just used that 3.3 <-> 3.3.5 split to generate hype ahead of ShitizenCon.

And now they claim to have moved some 3.3.5 tasks back into 3.3, which they will release live this week. Which means that the planets remain in 3.3.5 for a later date.

I can guess precisely what they’re going to do next. If they release 3.3 - which is already a disaster even with OCS+NBC - that’s going to be their excuse for holding off on 3.3.5 until next year. Right now, 3.3 is an absolute disaster (performance, crashes, new hilarious bugs etc) that’s even worse than 3.0 (Dec 2017) and that’s going to be their benchmark and excuse " We have to fix OCS + NBC + stability + performance before we can add planets " to delay 3.3.5. Then again, if they’re dumb enough, they will release it for the Dec holiday stream.

I can say one thing with certainty - and this comes from multiple credible sources - 3.3 is an absolute disaster and there is no way they can fix it before year end. They may end up rolling back OCS+NBC even.

We also noticed that while they have filed financials for the RSI shell company, they are now late on filing financials for CIG group (UK). They probably won’t file either until after ShitizenCon, or after the holiday stream because I believe it’s bad enough that they don’t want me writing about it as I normally would, and freaking out the tribe.

If they haven’t been freaked out yet, nothing you write now is going to faze them.
These fans are the stubbornest fans I’ve ever seen.

Follow the Republican party much?

I’m pretty much forced to these days, whether I want to or not, but I get your point:
Star Citizen fans are Republicans.
