Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

I’d make millions! And still deliver a better product than Star Citizen.

which game are you referencing?

Freelancer, I Imagine.

Ohhh, I too am DYING to know.

Well, it’s… uh… the only space game I was really playing at the time, so not a great sample size, but… considering this…

Vendetta Online

Get out.

;)

Ah. Vaguely remember that game (think I reviewed it for Gamespot at release, but back then I had a monopoly on space sim reviews for that site, which was nice).

The combat in Jumpgate is far, far better.

I’d be happy with a polished single player game like Freespace. If they somehow managed to cut their losses and focus just on that…

It’s annoying that game never found anything resembling the audience it deserved. Decline of joysticks hurt it hard, I think. Obvious wasn’t marketed as well as it could have been either, but it actually got a fair amount of recognition for the time. More than Vendetta Online did, at least.

That’s how I feel about Starshatter, too. Oh well.

Likely also a victim of poor timing due to the demise of the genre. It was sooo good. Still is.

I’m not the fan of that game that you are, but I think it was always more “indie” than Jumpgate and wouldn’t have been a big commercial hit even if the genre hadn’t tanked. Liked the inclusion of the capital ship stuff, but it was a little too simple. That’s generally my biggest complaint about Starshatter - lots of cool stuff in it, but none of it is as polished or as deep as many games with less ambition. Damn impressive accomplishment though.

edit: talking about the original release - never played the Gathering Storm version.

You’re likely right, what made it so unique made it even more nichey than the nichiest of niches. ;)

Now you see why I just lol’ed at him and moved on. I have bigger fish to fry. Eye on the prize kinda think. People like us on the autism spectrum tend to have laser focus on things that are of vital importance to us. It’s doesn’t have to make sense - and we tend not to actually care what people think.

How I got involved in this farce is well documented. And yes, if Chris and his cronies didn’t try to vilify me - while lying about it - and then subsequently sent his lunatic fanboys after me, things would probably have been slightly different.

The fact is that for almost three decades (BC3K is 22 yrs this month btw. I wrote some words) I have developed games for this genre - which has been fledgling for many years now. So it’s shocking to me that some ignorant dweebs completely ignore the common sense reasoning as to why this Star Citizen fiasco would be affect me both professionally and personally. That’s why I just ignore them.

LOL!! OK

They drew first blood. Then they and their minions picked a fight with the one person who never saw a fight he didn’t like, nor a hill he didn’t plan on dying on.

Thing is, I don’t have to be objective at all. But funny enough, I bear that in mind with each article that I write. It’s hilarious to be accused of not being objective when your target of your attention keeps making it easy to be objective without intending to be. I mean, think about this. I wrote that first blog back in July 2015 saying these chuckleheads had chewed off more than they could chew. It’s now 3 years + 3 months since - and not only have they not built 20% of the game promised, but by all accounts they will never - ever - build anything resembling what they promised. And it’s not like I haven’t been concerned about being proven wrong.

These guys are just pissed that I just happen to be that guy who blew the alarm loud enough to shine a spotlight on the train-wreck. It’s not like anyone would pay attention to a bunch of anon names in web forum somewhere. Heck, nobody even pays attention to the media coverage on Star Citizen anymore because they know it’s mostly fluff, and they’re hedging their bets.

I have zero regrets and I’m in for the long haul. As each month goes by, they continue to prove me to be right - and I don’t have to write a single word to point that out.

But wait, what’s coming next is absolutely hilarious. Though I couldn’t talk about it for months, when the Crytek lawsuit hit, those who were following me, already knew that I had hinted at it as much as I could without breaching confidentiality. I know a LOT of people working on this train-wreck and I know EVERYTHING that’s going on with it. Chris and his cronies know this all too well.

Indeed it was. I wonder what happened to Milo. Is he still around these parts?

I believe @milo is indeed still around. ;)
