Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

To be fair Elite has a similar system. And yes its stupid.

Economies need a money drain to control inflation from the introduction/extraction of resources, MMOs do too. Even when prices from NPCs aren’t fixed, it kind of brakes the game too.
It’s a bit wrong about real currencies, but Extra Credit’s covered the issue.

You know I’ve dedicated over three years to this shit-show, right? LOL! I know everything :)

You can’t trade or mine in an Aurora. Period. You can do AI generated combat missions, or go head to head with other players or NPC units in Arena Commander. Or since you don’t need a ship, there’s the Godawful fps called Star Marine.

You know why you won’t see gameplay videos of people actually playing the game? Because there’s nothing to play. They’re using it for propaganda with pretty screen shots. It’s a screen shot generating machine.

The whole thing is P2W. And since they’re not actually making a game, they don’t care about boring thinks like balancing and such. The whole thing is a monetization of scope creep, and whales buy ships like they were collectibles.

Interns are running that show now. All the main people have left or fired.

Yes, you are right about one thing, it’s just you.

Calling me a troll because you disagree with me, don’t like what I’m saying etc - all WITHOUT ever refuting ANYTHING I’ve written, just makes me lol. And I win because I’m old school like that.

So, in this instance, please show me WHERE the answer to my question was inaccurate. I answered in the PRESENT tense of someone who wanted to try the game NOW. You are talking about the FUTURE for a game that’s FOUR YEARS late and is NEVER going to get to that point where insurance promises are even completed. A game whereby instead of delivering on past promises or building JPEGs already sold, they’re adding new features and new ships, without ever completing what they already took money for.

You talk about insurance never running out. Did you conveniently forget about the massively LONG wait times for your ship, with or without insurance? Shall I bring some pics? The shortest time is usually more than 30 mins. Yes, you have to wait 30 mins to get your ship back. Guess what happens if you don’t have another ship to use in the meantime?

ps:

…not if your system either can’t run the game, or you can’t play it long enough to get to a place were you can actually see said vistas.

But hey, it’s only $45 and you have 14 days to refund. Go for it and report back!!

I agree game economies need sinks. But if Elite is anything to go by then insurance is a really bad way to do it. The amounts are not enough to make any impact in the global economy (most elite players I know have several hundred million credits now, usually more) but if they were a meaningful amount then players would rightfully get very angry at being killed by a bug, or other players or just bad luck.

I think its just bad game design to be honest. Game economy sinks are really sensitive. They should be very transparent and in the players hands entirely with zero randomness or “skill” involved in them.

Careful Derek you are gonna get quoted in a starcitizen ad with that :)

"Its so good even our critics recommend it!
Dsmart:
it’s only $45 and you have 14 days to refund. Go for it "
"

:)

LOL!! The price has leaked.

It’s $1,400. FOR A JPEG!! (the ship is neither built, nor in the game).

I agree whole heartedly, but I will add that they also haven’t actually designed and explained how insurance and ship costs will work. You can’t actually buy ships with in game currency because they honestly have been pretending for years that this would somehow be hard.

No one knows what a new ship will cost, no one knows what in game insurance will cost, no one knows how missions will actually pay out.

They are selling lifetime insurance as a premium thing but no one knows what it really is. That said, if you can’t even load your jpeg in the game then nothing bad can happen to it.

I said it when they came out with a ridiculous jpeg sale for more than my car cost and I’ll repeat it now: people need to go to jail for this behaviour.

Indeed. In the words of croberts himself:

These guys are a special kind of stupid.

By the latest metrics, about 175 whales bought the Kraken with warbonds (new cash money) @ $1,400.

And they claim (it’s bs - we know) to have 2M backers.

Basically, Star Citizen is where it has been since 2016 whereby a few whales are paying for those who don’t pay anything anymore or who just have a base package. This is the standard model for F2P games; except those are completed products.

When the final end comes, it’s going to be all kinds of hilarious because it hasn’t occurred to whales yet that it’s not a sustainable model when you have about 450 working worldwide and you have a burn rate over of approx $4m a month in which key studios are literally insolvent (according to their UK financials). Something’s gotta give. Which explains the quiet exits, inability to hire top talent etc.

You can’t fix stupid, but you can laugh at it.

It is a joke, right? It has to be.

Wave2!

Also…

Culled from live metrics:

This is how they milk whales. Big spenders are first in line.

This thread is full of wtf. With virtually no gameplay loops in the game, they think capital ships will have janitor roles and cook roles and that people will want to man them.

A. You can get a job as a real cook or janitor and make money.

B. There’s no way they will have this many pc game loops.

Will they have dust and grime counters so the janitor will have something to do.

One guy even thinks you’ll be able to “work on his race ship” in game.

A Saturday Rant about the Star Citizen fundraising absurdity

It’s all nonsense.

I dunno - If 200 were bought over night, you would think someone would be willing to pay you to brew some coffee and make high-poly bacon and eggs in game.
