Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Oh that’s nuthin’. The hug box that is /r/starcitizen will ban you if you even quote or link anything from me. Seriously. They’re completely retarded over there.

Yes. Precisely what I explained previously. They do this shit constantly.

Why we play…

If they make it something that gets you a bounty in-game I might buy it.

Sorry - I didn’t pick up on that since there’s only so much scummy behavior I can take in at once before my credulity meter overloads. It really boggles the mind.

It completely boggles the mind. FYI, in this post which I made in response to you, what I didn’t mention about the Idris frigate is that…wait…it’s good:

This past CitizenCon, they sold the Kraken carrier with a snazzy commercial. Like others before it, this ship came out of nowhere. As part of the scope creep, they just announced and sold JPEG concept for it.

$1,650. I swear to God it has a PDF brochure.

It immediately overpowered BOTH the Idris variants. Previously the most powerful frigate in the game.

So, less than a month later - this week - they’re selling weapon components for the Idris which will somehow match the Kraken.

I wish I was even joking, but I’m not. This is all facts.

This is the next level in game design. Everybody knows that the anticipation always exceeds the reality. CIG is designing the anticipation, man.

Better yet, they’re monetizing the anticipation.

That was pretty much my experience. Uninstalled it.
I did have a brief moment of sheer gaming pleasure when I landed (more or less) my ship on a wrecked station and was able to simply open the door and step out into space and fly over to an opening in the hull and do a brief look around inside before finding my mission object and going back to my ship, which then somehow had a weird physics reaction to the station platform it was resting on and “took off” at max speed crashing into the station and sending me back to my bed.

They do make damn good commercials! It really feels like something a creepy but slick space corporation would put out to convince people they need to buy a bigger truck than their neighbor.

If only that much effort went into Squadron 22 storytelling…

Holy shit. I had no idea that the Star Citizen scammery had elevated to this point. So let me see if I’m understanding all of this correctly:

The vast majority of “ships” in the SC universe only exist as artist rendered concept art, fake PDF sales brochures and/or slickly produced teaser videos that aren’t even using the in-game engine. These “ships” are then sold to backers for anywhere from $20 to $1500+, even though they can’t actually fly, use or even see most of them in game. What’s more, once you “own” a ship, you can buy upgrades to it so that it keeps pace with newer ships released after you’ve purchased, even though you still can’t fly/use/see it or it’s new upgrades. And this is all in addition to needing to purchase insurance to retain your ships if they’re lost (assuming this is only for ships you can actually fly/use/see), and paying a monthly fee to subscribe to additional content on the developer website?

It’s like a huge scam onion…layers upon layers of ways to pay for nothing at all. I would imagine their resources must be split something like 75/25 between income stream development and actual game development.

If CIG would just take out the absurd quantum travel, they wouldn’t have to build those other systems. Just make these turds/whales/fanbois travel in real-time. CIG could give them a few AUs of blackness to travel through.

This project needs to fail. The implication of success are just too dire for the gaming community. You see how AAA companies latched on to gambling mechanics/lootboxes. This will be like a jpg apocalypse.

I don’t want it to fail…but GOD I want it to fail…

This was posted above, but is worth posting again: a video series that talks about this absurdity in detail – Sunk Cost Galaxy

Yes. All of the above…and then some.

ps: They were also selling land claims even before there was access to planets and moons. Right now some backers own claims to plots of land - which literally don’t exist.

And probably never will. Much like the thousand dollar ships jpegs.

Does it help if you think of it as a huge scam parfait instead?

Let us say it’s a huge scam landfill. You can keep digging and digging but all you find is progressively older garbage.

No, because a scam parfait would at least be sweet and leave me fat and happy.
A scam onion leaves only a bad taste in my mouth and tears in my eyes.
=)

Much like my first two marriages.
