Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Your first Star Citizen fiasco fix for 2019.

Not many people know this, but somewhere out there (I won’t say where), there is a company with an entire tech support division modeled after your online persona

While this is super racist, I couldn’t help but think of it when you said this.

Some of these haven’t aged well. I look back

RW to 2013

FF to 2018

As I said in my latest blog:

A 5th of the sales, even as he continued to burn through FREE money

2016 was a good year for saying I was clueless.

Yet, here we are.

Mr. Roberts, please meet your new cellmate: Bernie Madoff.

Are you serious? LOL!! I would love to know that company. Message me!!

LOL!! Yeah, makes sense.

I know Unity would have been a terrible engine for this game, but what other engine out there could have handled what they want to do? I can’t recall the Unreal engine being used for expansive space so is there something else out there which may have offered a better option?

If anyone says Creation Engine/Gamebryo you get a kick in the knees.

That oxide engine stardock was touting a while back?

I’m sure Frontier would have licensed them the E:D engine.

That would be fucking hilarious, especially if by some weird-ass miracle the game actually got built and turned out to be way more fun than E:D xaxaxaxa

None. They would have had to build a custom engine from the ground up. Even if they had used UE4 as their base for a custom engine instead of CryEngine, they would have faced some serious challenges, but it would have been a better option than CryEngine once they increased the scope of the game they pitched in 2012.

I think a flight sim engine (not that there are many of those around) would have been a good start. The notion of simulating flight dynamics in a local bubble and only approximating things further out is the key, I think, and it’s probably easier to take that and make a specialized local mode that has better graphics for a localized FPS than going the other way round, which is what they’ve tried to do.

So I was looking over a demonstration of this “Face Over IP” FOIP feature they have in the game. I must say it is quite compelling and would not be surprised to see this tech in other games in the near future. Streamers are going to love it.

Here’s three clips from the same stream.

  1. When he is starting out - it looks a little wonky
  2. He adjusts more light on his face
  3. He is spending time talking/emoting to some extent

Latest in the Crytek v CIG lawsuit

Most mentions you get in this thread usually range from vitriolic to “well at least he’s not as bad as he used to be”. I want to throw out an unqualified “thank you” for not only covering this issue but the way you cover it.

Thanks. I’m old school, so I know how to ignore inconsequential noise :)

From the comment section below that video you linked in your Twitter:

That’s right, someone has compared the efforts of CIG to the efforts of NASA.
But to be fair, CIG’s budget could someday eclipse NASA’s.

If that had also included some bragging I’d assume it was Cleve writing about Grimoire.

Biggest walkaway I get from this is @dsmart tweets are not really compatible with twitter character limits. ;>
