Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Boss at work has/had several pebbles that he made different small apps for, it looked like a cool watch.

Wasn’t it killed when Fitbit bought them?

Pebble folded and ended all support and voided warranties. They failed to deliver a ton of pre-sold watches (although they did eventually refund).

There’s better examples of failures but it wasn’t much of a success.

Like… New Coke!

At least New Coke was something that the company could and did fix. It cost them a bundle at the time but sure didn’t hurt them in the long run.

Pebble would be like if Star Citizen finished 1.0 and maybe 1.1 and then blew up trying to do an ambitious 2.0. To me it seems different to successfully launch but then fail to continue. People did lose out on that last product, but it wasn’t snake oil.

How much space does latest Star Citizen build take? I am thinking about taking it for a spin to see how it runs on my ryzen/2080Ti combo, but only have 25GB left free on my SSD.

Full installation size looks to be around 50GB.

Thanks, gonna have to uninstall Exodus.

So where do I try the free play? Can’t see an actual link :/

If I had to guess, they’re trying to get at what kind of personalities are running this show, but yeah, that took me totally by surprise, as I hadn’t heard a thing about it until just now.

It makes everyone look unreliable and nuts.

I’m glad. Aside from the fact that there’s nothing new (aside from the crazy Sandi stuff) in there, it was better for them to have a fresh take this disaster.

They didn’t have to show why it’s relevant because I’m guessing they’re well aware that their average reader isn’t a complete moron who wouldn’t get the gist of the article. It was mostly about the people heading the project; and that’s why it’s relevant. As I said in my thread, I don’t think the Sandi stalking thing had a place in it, but then it occurred to me that the context was more about the people. It’s also why they wrote about them renting a $16K per month house after the crowd-funding windfall, then amid the project running out of money, they went out and bought a $4.7m house - all with backer money.

Then of course, aside from the Crytek lawsuit, they didn’t write about her lying about having two biz degrees, nor about the fact that they purposefully tried to hide the fact that the unqualified VP was married to Chris Roberts. I guess they had a word count to watch.

What crazy new Sandi stuff?

Wait! You didn’t read the article?

Meanwhile, back at the Church, due to hurt feelz, they’re suggesting that they sue Forbes over the Star Citizen article. So far mods have been deleting ALL threads about the article. So get this while it lasts. Trust me, it’s hilarious.

Already gone.

This is why we screencap everything :)

That was more my point. It seems a lot more relevant to the article’s theme of mismanagement and incompetence to note how she has repeatedly lied about her qualifications than the fact that they had some messy personal stuff before the project. It seemed like a weird choice of article space but I guess it has the benefit of a court record paper trail.
