Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

what a waste of time and money

Dear. Lord. What the actual everloving fuckshits?

That’s not a spaceship. THIS is a spaceship.

He’s gotta be a whale.

Lord even if I had all the money in the world I’d never waste it on something like that.

I did PR for Microsoft back when they launched Flight Sim 98 so I’ve seen some things. People spend tens of thousands of dollars buying old airplane cockpits and fixing them up. It’s insane.

I guess in the scheme of things it’s better than doing crack…

Indeed. And this particular guy is quite happy. His DIY project got him a shout out from the Lead Concept Designer of the Orville.

As the Lead Concept Designer on The Orville, I salute you! Can’t wait to see more!

It’s eccentric, for sure. And I would not do it either (though it’s cool thinking about getting a nice cockpit like environment for flight / space simulators. There are many less involved and cheaper solutions that make good use of HOTAS, pedals and multiple monitors). But I’m sure it’s a fun project while in confinement.

But, remember, in this forum, we hate everything.

Yeah, I was gonna say, if the dude has the time and energy to build all that, good for him. If he’s married, I hope his wife is cool with it. Other than that, it’s not much worse than folks that build airplane cockpits or racing simulators with multi-screen setups and hydraulic lifts to sim movement.

How cool would it be to play SC in that cockpit with a good VR set.

Building stuff, even silly stuff, is cool. Props to basement spaceship set building guy.

Just to be clear, I’m not being judgy, or at least trying not to be. As you all have noted, if they have the time, money, and inclination, more power to them! It’s just not something I’d ever do.

what’s the difference between Lead Concept Designer and Lead Designer on this already merely conceptual project?

and @Wendelius, sorry for your name in the quote; it just came in that way. I am enjoying your refreshing reports from actually playing the demo.

On “The Orville”, the TV show. Not Star Citizen.

Just as a note: Star Citizen doesn’t support VR.

Not my cup of space tea, but damn, mad props to the dude for having the skill and patience to do something like that.

Really? Then I want a refund of my $125,000.

I think the unfortunate part is building that rig to play a game that may in all likelihood never come out, not the rig itself. I’m always super-jealous of simmers who have the custom cockpits and stuff.

No worries! Like @Thrag mention, the guy is a Designer for the TV show. I should have capitalised The Orville. It was confusing as written.

And I’m really glad some have been enjoying play session reports. It’s a break from the usual coverage of the insanity that passes as project management in SC. :)

It’s not like the computer can’t play other games. Plus given the project it seems he’s into the whole everything sim aspect where you can walk around the ship and all.

I love some good project management disaster porn as much as the next guy but we’re bordering on “stop liking what I don’t like” here.

The guy clearly enjoys SC despite the lack of “game”. Lots of people like cool looking sandboxes even if they are devoid of game elements. You don’t see people slagging on MSFS fans because there’s no “game” there.

Yeah you’re right, I shouldn’t yuck someone’s yum. The amount of work going into these things along is impressive.
