Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

It wasn’t much. I did most of the theory classes and studying in a club in Luxembourg. I had 3-4 lessons flying out of ELLX on a Piper 28 Archer. Loved that plane so much! I also flew a Robin 200 and Cessna 152 for a flight or 2. But never went further than the final approach. My instructor landed. I later made some friends in UK and we flew in someone’s 6 seater across the channel to France for a day. Those were fun times. I really should install Flight Simulator at some point.

I also got twins in my late twenties. That was the end of my flying lessons.

I kept waiting for Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker, Gary Oldman and a gang of space pirates to burst into the room during that concert :)

Yeah, the “inspiration” is pretty obvious. I don’t blame them, though. That scene (and that movie) are super green.

Great. Now I have to rewatch it. It’s been too long. Not that I mind. :)

Yesterday’s Inside Star Citizen was focused on what’s coming in 3.14 (within the next few weeks). And the spotlight was put on Crusader, the gas giant we will soon get to visit, and the floating city of Orison above it.

It’s pretty breath taking:

After the first minute of intro chat, there are a lot of daytime and night time shots which look pure awesome.

Based on Evocati leaks (early testers under NDA), the place is also currently a framerate death trap. But they are working on that.

The fact that Orison is the headline change means this will be another update that’s more about eye candy than gameplay. The positive side of it is that the new cloud tech will be used across the galaxy and Orison has been a test bed / driver for a lot of graphical optimisation work, as well as more refinements on NPC’s, … But, obviously, those aren’t gameplay loops.

The end of the video also has a recap of the other incoming changes (power management V2, new scanning, better HUD’s, missile operators, recurring and improved dynamic events…). So there will be some stuff to sink our teeth into, but nothing major. Though the improved power management sounds promising.

So while the next patch will sure look pretty around there, I’m not sure it will be any kind of must jump in point for curious onlookers. If you are curious, watch the video though. Those flowering trees and night time lighting are something.

Ah, the obligatory multipass. :)

I was looking around for The Fifth Element yesterday and realised it’s one of the few movies I do not have on any streaming service or movie library. I will admit I was too lazy to go dig out my Blu Ray copy. This week-end though. It’s such a fun watch every time!

It better include pie…

Can’t argue with that!

Hey peeps!

ICYMI: So Chris disappears for almost 2 yrs, reappears (tanned and everything), says he’s moving back to the UK to “finish” the game(s). After 10 yrs.

Backers collectively blink, yawn, and move on.

It’s even more hilarious because over on Spectrum (game’s official watering hole) some are calling for an “investigation” into what’s happened to the games, their money etc and why now is he “moving back to the UK to finish the games”.

They need a time machine back to 2015 :)

Wait till they find out that the entire operation has reportedly been sold, and that news won’t be public until sometime in Q3/21.

Meanwhile, back at the HAB…

…and they’re still tying themselves up in knots over there. It’s quite uncanny. Confirmation bias is not a good mix for sunk cost fallacy.

Most people who understand project management knows, SQ42 post-2014 was never going to come out before 2021

Party foul! All future dates in this thread must follow proper guidelines. You meant to say Q3/CurrentYear+2

It’s pretty creepy over there. “Games usually take 10 years to make so this is totally cool”. Yikes.

What do you think the meaning of the move to the UK is? Clearly he’s given up on a Hollywood career, which was his big dream. Anything else?

Hoping for no extradition back to the states when the whole house of cards collapses? (Although with the money still being dumped into the game/company, I can’t imagine it’s going to happen soon).

Clearly, he is doing in-depth research on the next addition to the space station food court, authentic fish and chips.

I’m more of a bangers and chips sort, so TOTALLY UNPLAYABLE!

Yeah, I wouldn’t expect it to stop…

It disgusts me to see how much money has been squandered on this boondoggle.

What this game really needs to reach its final, if unfinished, form is some cryptocurrency integration.
