Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

I mean, maybe making games is hard, but I think people regularly overestimate the amount of expertise necessary to do their jobs, and, like, plenty of games actually do get made.

Per jpeg. Upgrade sucker.

Well this is quite the thread (first post in its entirety below to see if it’s worth your time).

What happened to the “experience” initiative Chris Roberts mentioned Oct 10th 2020?

Part of the “there are no gameplay loops” comments I see occasionally stem from the fact the base professions often are incomplete in their functionality, like effectively being able to collect cargo from a ship you just waylaid as a pirate. This along with an occasional game-breaking bug and lack of polish gives an impression of much less than there actually is. Rectifying this, along with improving the initial user experience, are core to our upcoming “experience” initiatives, with Cargo, Piracy and Bounty Hunting being high on the list to receive the extra love and attention to make the professions fully rounded and fun.

So what happened to these “experience” initiatives?

I’m quite frankly surprised that we never heard this mentioned again. Neither in ISC, SCL, or in any articles on the website. I would have thought this would have been the buzzword for 2021 after that letter.

The fact is, that SC is now a worse experience than since Oct 10th 2020.

  • There are more game-breaking bugs than ever.
  • The general server performance is worse than ever.
  • All gameplay loops are same state as Oct 2020 or in even worse condition (trading/mining as an example)

Is it time to postpone a patch and spend full time all man hours for 1 quarter to make the game playable and enjoyable?

…but if we just took the time to finish the existing professions and polish them, Star Citizen would have no rival.

Please do it! Pleease.

Your game is currently dying a slow death Mr. Roberts. Please do something!

Thanks
A concerned fan

My favorite quote from that thread:

“CIG just continually pushes everything to the edge of the envelope, because they’re trying to cram in as much as they possibly can within the limited resource budget they’ve allowed themselves on the system.”

Limited resource budget for the for a $200 million plus development cost? LOL!

Star Citizen is no longer something to laugh at. I really hate what Chris Roberts has done to this industry and the disdain he has towards backers.

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen_refunds/comments/pfgchs/uk_advertising_standards_agency_rule_concept_ship/

Fed up of CIG and the constant lies, I reported their Gatac Railen ship email as being misleading to consumers to the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) as there is no mention that the ship does not exist and might never exist.

A few weeks later, the ASA confirm the CIG email does go against the Advertising Code of Practice and informed CIG who now have added a disclaimer to all their concept ships for sale via email.

Maybe some big gaming site should finally review the game as it is and give a score. That would be some kind of message (and a hint of reality) that might help the cultists. Maybe it could score a 6 out of 10? From all I have read that’s about it… “a bare bones niche game for fans of the genre and enthusiasts.” Not a AAA blockbuster that will fascinate the gaming world.

Other ‘Early Access’ titles get reviewed as well.

So is anything releasing this year? TLDR thread. :P

The single player part has to be almost done, they did the mo-cap for it like forever ago, lol.

ROFL, they can’t even release the roadmap for the roadmap for SQ42. That thing is dead as a door nail, but admitting as much would create some genuine seismic waves among the true followers.

Yeah, the “successor to Wing Commander” pitch is the reason I gave them 35 bucks or whatever a decade ago. Joke’s on me.

It’s odd there are no reviews. Maybe it’s something to do with those other titles being ‘released’ on some kind of external platform? Star Citizen is currently only available from the developer yeah?

Or maybe all the review sites figure it’s just in nowhere near a reviewable state yet…

I’m sure this will sting.

:eyeroll:

I’m sure this whole affair is a sad lesson for Curt Schilling. If only he’d been clever enough to rip off consumers instead of the state of Rhode Island he’d still be in business today.

Lol at the goal they have! :D

AU$ 15,643 pledged of AU$ 31,799,767

Guy is an ‘entrepreneur, consultant, and expert’ who’s ‘always been a gamer’. Doesn’t seem to have any actual game development credentials or experience. ;)

Haha, that has to be a joke, surely.

Two pledge tiers!

I wonder how many pledges are actually his own.

The guy was “blown away” with the 2005 King Kong game.

But guys, it’s “A Space Sandbox Like GTA5 But Better”!

Excellent, he’s even plagiarised his Risks section. I mean, it’s gibberish, and he couldn’t even come up with his own gibberish.

This reminds me of the guy a while back who was trying to get an MMO that promised the world on KS. He had no experience, nothing, but he wanted people to fund this impossible dream of his. I wish I could find it because it was so naive and funny. But this guy has that topped, asking for $23 million?! But still, he could deliver a bigger game than Star Citizen at less than 10% of the cost! Surely that’s doable!
