Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

The speech pack for 2 was cool, but personally whenever I think of speech packs the WC: Privateer one is burned into my brain.

DIE BY THE WEAPONS THAT YOU ADORE

I once got Tom Wilson to sign my copy of Wing Commander IV, but now I don’t know where it is. :(

I owned the WC 3 Premiere Edition with the VHS “Making Off” tape. But I’m not sure where it all ended up in the 5 or 6 moves since. Probably left at my parents and disposed of since. :(

(similar to this one but with a VHS tape instead)

I had that reel and the VHS tape. That was the best part of wc3. Its all online just watch the first 30 seconds and tell me it doesn’t hold up. (I love Tom Wilson so much)

Tom Wilson is hilarious. I’m going to have to rewatch the whole thing now. Thanks for the link!

Yeah, he’s a funny guy.

ROTFLMAO!! Well done, mate :)

In other news…lol…I think the news is trickling out

Whenever I see something like this, I think of this thread. Not Star Citizen itself, mind you —just THIS THREAD

Yowzer!

The new office is set to open in May 2022 and rehouse the company’s current 400-person team based nearby in Wilmslow, before quickly and dramatically expanding.

A five-year plan will see 700 people fill the building by 2023, before further growth to an eye-opening team size of 1000 by 2026

Everyone knows a 10 year lease on 3000 square meters of office space is a critical step between pre-alpha and alpha in any development project.

Or between unjustified euphoria and inevitable crash and burn? See: dot.com bubble.

The brilliant thing is they can get all the devs to work from home and just have a jpeg of the office building, while skimming off the money earmarked for it in executive salaries and bonuses!

Did Chris Roberts buy a building in Manchester that he’s now renting to his own company?

No, he did not.

Those planned employee numbers (they seem like a mix of consolidation and growth) are mind boggling and hard to make sense of from a budgeting point of view. This is where ambition is starting to feel like too small a word. I ain’t happy about the numbers. But neither do I fully understand what they truly intend.

That said, leaving those longer terms considerations aside until things clear up a bit, the 3.15 patch also came out today. Here is the trailer:

If anybody wants to try Star Citizen out and find out how over 100 ships fly (better than jpegs, for sure), the next free flight event will take place during the IAE 2951 event. You can try out the game for free from the 19th of November to the 1st of December.

Yeah, who knows what the reasons, motivations, plans, etc. actually are. I mean, it looks whack on the surface, but, eh, maybe it makes sense somehow that we can’t figure. I ain’t betting on that, but I’m also not in any position to say positively one way or the other.

More likely, Chris is just stupid.

Eh, hard to reconcile actual stupidity with what Roberts has accomplished. Hard-headed, egotistical, arrogant, perhaps unrealistic, but stupid? I wouldn’t mind being that kind of stupid if I could land that much money from people buying JPEGs.

Didn’t Wendelius just mention there is over 100 of flyable ships in the current build?

Yeah, but it doesn’t take genius to sell actual gameplay. Selling pics, though, that’s where the magic is!
