In fairness, that’s a pretty handy skill to have.

Can someone post that Simpsons gif where the dude says “that’s the joke”? :)

Rule of Software Development:

On Time
On Budget
No Bugs

You only get 2 out of the 3.

Ok, confirmed, you do have a bigger wallet than me :). My biggest KS pledge is $50 I think.

And more often/likely, none of the 3. ;)

I was rather underwhelmed by Arena, really. Is it terrible that I enjoy Elite combat so much more? I backed Star Con for more than a 100 so now I’m buying skins in Elite to support further development.

I also hope we get what we wanted but I think this will be the next Duke Nukem story. I am just waiting for CR to decide that they need to change/upgrade/build their own graphic engine.

Isn’t Cryengine a poor choice for a large streaming universe anyway? Meh, at this point, it doesn’t matter.

Anyway it has been entertaining. Presumably the boom will be over shortly (the prices are reaching peak stupid).

I agree with the post about a fly on the wall doco. It would have been fascinating to watch it grow and collapse under its own weight. Im thinking a Scarface type adventure.

Hmm, all this talk has me waxing nostalgic for Hellgate London . . .

(Chris Roberts)“Ok, so the money is nearly running out, what do we do?”

(worker)“Well you know all those vid camera’s we installed way back, all that footage is available. We could do a reality TV show for a season or two?”

(Chris Roberts)“Great! contact CBS and work out a pitch. We can use a couple of million to edit the stuff we don’t want to show.”

We should be careful what we wish for?! ;)

So they did, in fact, meet modern (mainstream) journalism standards.

Crank the popcorn engines up to Warp 3, there is a new letter from RSI, this time from a lawyer:

(Also, note the threat for litigation in the UK, which is a very friendly venue for this kind of lawsuit)

That letter is filled with allegations of its own, and a lot of backhanded compliments. It’s kind of weird, really.

Oh well, I’ll need more popcorn apparently.

Weird. I assumed most of the complaint would be about the accusations of criminal fraud and embezzlement.

Interesting statement about the employee card. Someone is lying

How can a company manage payroll and benefits without issuing ID numbers?

I only skimmed the letter, but didn’t it say that they didn’t issue company ID cards, not that there are no numbers.

Not surprisingly, the letter goes after the lack of independent verification that I mentioned earlier. Merely repeating what you’re told by an individual or group isn’t investigative journalism.

CIG obviously believe no publicity is bad publicity if they are posting that for public consumption. It’s emotional and charged, written for public consumption, rather than the legal brevity you’d normally see in that kind of letter.

They must see the value in having their community charged up on this.

Well they posted it but not in a super-easy-to-read format so maybe that makes it OK. It sounded a bit like a pissed off Chairman wrote it with some help of his Legal Thesaurus. Telefrog’s point about the lack of defense on the fraud/embezzlement seems pretty on point though.

Ah, so now the Escapist’s article is not a poorly researched or unsubstantiated article; rather it is part of a planned CONSPIRACY!

I am picturing Chris Roberts sitting, like Captain Queeg in the Caine Mutiny: “The Strawberries! Ah yes, that’s where I caught them!”

This is one of those things where a good lawyer would either tell Roberts to just issue a short but firm denial and then get on with life, or, if you are going to send a letter, you don’t make it public. In particular one that sounds more like rambling paranoia than a succinct professional letter from an attorney.
