Star Crash - perhaps the best movie ever made

Hot damn.

nods ferverently

Yeah some available, not a lot of hi-res…

Anyway, yeah, I like! :)

My google-fu is strong. I sent her an email. We’ll see how that goes.

Yeah, I need to set about editing this podcast. Actually we did a pair. Star Crash and Barbarella. Next week is, by request, KRULL. Josh, to my horror, has never seen KRULL.

I have a pretty large collection of stinky B movies here. We’re intending on knocking out one a week until someone dies.

This is what I actually OWN. Then, netflix is a limitless barrel of fish.

Hah! That’s one way to get to the heart of the issue; hadn’t even occurred to me. She’s such a minor celebrity it might work.

I’m envious of your bad movie collection; sadly my wife isn’t into them, so I rarely get the chance. Hmmm; maybe I should start a bad movie night…

[Edit: Wait! You snuck a suspicious number of not-actually-bad movies in there…]

Obviously you mean Zardoz. Sorry. I think it’s bad. :-)

ZAAAAARRRRRDOZ! ZAAAAARDOZ SPEAKS TO YOOOOOU!

Oh wait, you mean the other ones. Just because some of my collection is “classic” doesn’t mean its not smelly. I mean, you can’t defend the likes of Close Encounters without taking some time to riff on the man for building a mountain out of mashed potatoes. Seriously, he did. Watch it again.

Or do you mean Robocop? I bought that for a DOLLAR!

Ok, I’ll give you The THING, though. It’s like my #2 favorite scifi movie. But I’m still going to twist the dagger in its back.

Um wait, why did you email her?

— Alan

To thank her for being part of Starcrash. I mean, my god we had a good time watching that thing. It was beyond epic. So, since she was pretty much the force of awesomeness that made it all work - I decided to express my appreciation.

Man, I’m having a binge on this B-movie shit now though… oh god. I’ve got my feelers out for this one:

I remember seeing this as a kid. Ya know, where you’re a kid and a good Vincent Price movie makes it hard to sleep. I think this bad boy paved the way for Rami and Evil Dead, big time. I mean, stolen Necronomicon, stop motion monsters, play-doh effects. Yeah.

Heh. :-)

I was thinking of these:
Conan
Big Trouble in Little China
Dragonslayer
Mr Vampire
Robocop 1
The THING

Well, I’m just joking about Mr Vampire (though it is an awesome flick), but the others are in their way actually good movies. The first three in particular are some of my favorite movies and hold up quite well, unlike say Krull, which turned out upon rewatching to be an entirely different kind of awesome than I remember from when I saw it as a kid (in the theater!).

My co-host passed along this VERY important pro-tip

I confess to watching the holiday special when it first aired. For at least a decade or two I thought I’d dreamed that shit, as I never saw reference to it anywhere. Then a friend made a random mention of it while we were nerding it up on star wars trivia and I was all, “Holy crap! That thing was real?!?!”

You do not have Troll 2 on your list. This is a must-watch film for people who like bad movies.

Oh, that’s not the comprehensive list. That’s what I have in-hand. Netflix is a magical kingdom where the grass is greenest over the sewer.

I saw part of Leprechan 1, and my wife was aghast that I didn’t know Jen Anniston was in it. Haven’t seen any of the others.

I watched a chunk of Equinox tonight, just to see if it was a foul as I remembered. Man, that movie DEFINES bad movie night.

Aszurom, your collection is amazing. ^_^

HA! Here at Turbine we have life day every year, and yes if you haven’t sat through the whole Holiday Special you are forced to. At least the copy we show has all the original commercials.

And yes, my god it is so bad…but there are some gem moments, Carrie Fisher on Heroin, Mark Hammil with more makeup than you can imagine (to be fair he just had reconstructive sugery), the Boba Fett cartoon is good in a weird Heavy Metal 1979 kind of way, and Wookie PORN!

No bad movie list is complete without Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. It is bad on a scale you’d never imagine. But OH the laughs! Garbage Day! Do watch Ricky’s eyebrows. They’re sentient.

Starcrash looks awesome, and this thread would be even more awesome in the movie forum.

“stinky”. There are some awesome, yeah-b-movie-but-not-stinkers-at-all in that list.

Also, I am jealous of that list. Prone to violence jealous.

Of your list I’ve seen and really enjoyed:

20 Million Miles to Earth
A Boy and His Dog - One of the best endings ever. Can’t beat that kind of love.
Abominable Dr Phibes
Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai - Pure unadultered awesomnes.

Battle Beyond the Stars
Big Trouble in Little China - Best movie ever.

Life Force - Best female vampire clothes ever.
Lost in Space
Night of the Living Dead
Pumpkinhead
Return of the Living Dead
Robocop 1, 2, and 3
The Host
The THING – Those were endings, back then.
THEM
Trilogy of Terror
War of the Worlds
Zardoz

Yes, I am a fan.

I’ve always been partial to Galaxina for stupid sci-fi.

“They’ve stolen our Lord!”

Geez, of that list, there’s only 18 that I haven’t seen. It’s very possible that I may have wasted my life.

That being said, this year’s B-Fest potential line up was just posted, and it’s chock full of win:

The Room
Hard Ticket to Hawaii
American Ninja
Maniac
Black Shampoo
Earth Vs. The Spider
At the Earth’s Core
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Fiend without a face
The Giant Claw (gojiru sub)
Crippled Masters
Gymkata
Sextette
Heart Beeps
Live It Up

Personally, I can’t wait. It’s going to be awesome.
