Hey everyone! I hope you don’t mind Dave and I recruiting you to try out this parallel event we came up with, I’m calling it Star Empires! It’s a 5 round tournament bracket with each round consisting of a best-of-3 series, and is somewhat team-based. Here’s how it works.
In Round 1, pairs of challengers face off in the local star systems. The winner becomes an admiral, the vanquished becomes a wingman.
In subsequent rounds, admirals face one another, and wingmen face one another. Each admiral victory is worth 3 points to the team score; each wingman victory is worth 2 points. The admiral of the winning team progresses. The stronger of the two wingmen survives to serve as the winning admiral’s wingman.
Once a team emerges triumphant, the wingman stabs the admiral in the back, and they battle for ultimate control of the galaxy!

This is such a great idea. I hope we didn’t overlook anything glitchy. I love the idea that the stronger wingman is taken by the winning admiral into the next round.
I wonder if we could switch from ‘wingman’ to the gender neutral ‘captain’? There are chicks (1) in the league!

The almighty Wikipedia defines Wingman as a unisex term, listing this description from the U.S. Air Force:
The traditional military definition of a “Wingman” refers to the pattern in which fighter jets fly. There is always a lead aircraft and another which flies off the right wing of and behind the lead. This second pilot is called the “Wingman” because he or she primarily protects the lead by “watching his back.”
Besides, everyone knows that chicks are the best wingmen! But I wouldn’t be surprised to see them all become admirals instead, it may be a moot point. Nevertheless, I’ll consider changing to “wingpersons” in the next revision, if applicable.
