Fire challenges to fire, followed by me too me too?

Self centered? Or just coincidence…?

Uh - now I’ve gone and gotten myself into 3 simultaneous real-time games. The next sound you hear will be my head exploding.

I can’t figure out how to get Gambit on my PC. It’s on my iOS devices no problem.

Shouldn’t Star Realms update itself on PC?

Wait, it would appear that I need to re-download the entire game to get the latest version. That can’t be correct, can it? Isn’t this 2015?

yes
yes
and yes

(this is what happens when people who learned to program for phones port their stuff to PC)

AM I THE ONLY ONE

Nope, took me a while to figure it out too. Actually, I went you one better, because I spent a while poking around Steam trying to figure out why Star Realms wasn’t updating, before realizing that it’s not a damn Steam game.

Team Playoffs

Thank you to those two for making a dint in my current losing streak.

Team playoffs. For the glory of the Mordoofi!!!

Mithrophon over Chronic

And another one… I think I’m missing something so trying to pay attention to your play. Thanks for allowing me to rematch I need the practice!

So My impression for the expansion so far:

A downside with the gambit expansion: There are several combinations of gambit cards to start with (plus cards to buy) that 100% decide the match in the first two rounds, and nothing you can do about it.

For example a random game that just started: My opponent started with 2 more or less useless gambit cards (for acquiring cards) and 3 scouts, in the middle: freighter, needle, megahauler and whatever.

I started with the “acquire a card with cost of 4” and “put a card on top of your deck” gambit cards, and 4 scouts. So after my first turn I had the needle and a freighter (on top of my deck). In the second turn I used the freighter to buy the megahauler. So 3rd turn (FIRST shuffle) and I already have freighter, needle and megahauler. This, and a lot of high price cards in the middle to acquire with those cards.
He on the other hand has: three explorer. Nothing he could have done about it.

The good thing with the expansion is: This happens not too often. And sometimes there are moves possible with those gambit cards that are a lot of fun. There is more to think about.

I still like the expansion after all, but it can still be a very luck dependent game.

Well then… Good game joe D:

Thanks for the thoughts, Holsten. I myself think this decision (on the part of the designers) is a very poor one, especially for league play. Perhaps they will think of a way to mitigate the Gambit cards (e.g. only allow people to play one per turn).

I’ve seen the same thing. I had 3 straight pickup games where my opponent scored a first- or second-round megahauler because of gambits; and where the megahauler was shuffled into their third hand with great ships in the center row - dreadnought, command ship, ark, etc. And I’ve done the same thing to someone else a few times. There’s no way to overcome it, and it’s going to happen a lot. It can be kinda fun in a screwy way but will make league play crazy.

Even the lowliest player can pull off a good win once in a while (thanks RNG). Now I know how the other half lives. GG!

It’s going to make me want to kill puppies if we use Gambits in league play. That being said, if anyone wants to use the expansion in Season 12, just say so, and I’ll put a special mark by your name!

Agreed. Draw two cards, scrap for 2 gold, and acquire cost 4 or less are the worst offenders. I wish we could choose which gambits to play with. I don’t mind most of the others.

I love that there are new cards, but I hate the way that the Gambits can decide a game basically by themselves. Maybe we could have a house rule that you play with the expansion, but neither player is allowed to use the Gambit cards?

As someone who has been losing a lot lately, put me in for some good Gambits draws.

Some of the new cards - e.g. Megahauler - are ridiculously powerful: +5 authority, take any ship to the top of the deck, and (if combined) draw that card? Making it harder to get will certainly help, but it’s a first-round freighter on steroids.

I also do (not yet) understand the design decisions behind the gambit cards. There are only 8 of them, yet there is such a wide disparity in power that the chance of there being a big difference in impact on the game is quite high.
