Joe, you totally need to get into the league, because you are the only player I’ve ever had this kind of luck run against. What is this, game 6 now? Between getting the good gambits and having all kinds of good ships drop in my lap, this is craziest string of games I’ve played yet.
My guess is that the designers shit the bed on this one.
Anyhow, we could use the expansion and house rule the hell out of it, e.g. you can only play one Gambit card at a time, and you can’t play one until the first shuffle, etc.
From my record in deck builders, I don’t think much of it is luck on your part…
I agree with the concerns, but I would also like to play with the new cards :/ If we can figure out a way to make it work, I’d be very much in favor. Star Realms is a great game, but the original set is getting a bit stale for me.
I would like to play with gambit in SR 12 against whoever wants. For sure there is some crazy luck involved… But that is not new in SR, or?
At least I think meanwhile I improved a lot (even reached rank 21) and there still is some kind of skill involved.
I’m down for gambits if people want to play with them.
It seems to me that the gambit cards themselves determine the outcome of the game. Get the right ones and you will win. It’s like having a coin toss instead of a game - the skill is inconsequential. It’s not like that in every game, but it is like that more often than not.
Hah, I knew it couldn’t last! The ships in that last game just were not going my way. Pick a blue, next turn the center row is all green. Pick one of those, next turn it’s all red. That’s more like what I’m used to. :)
For some combinations of gambits, you may be right, but I don’t know if I’d say it’s more often than not. It happens, but crazy starts like what Holsten described up-thread seem to be the exception more than the rule. There are some gambits which are definitely more powerful than others, but it’s not every game (or even most games) where one person gets the great start and the other gets nothing.
I’m willing to play with the expansion, gambits and all, against whoever else wants to use them. But it won’t bother me to go back to the base set for the people who don’t want to deal with it.

I just Blob Carrier’d a Mega Hauler, then drew the hauler to snag and play The Arc. The only thing I could think would make that turn more brutal to watch would have been if the Arc pulled a dreadnaught or something from my deck heh
Sorry Joe, the game has been letting you get awfully close to winning and then I get turns like that one!

SR11 Team Playoff
shang > Mithropon (29 vs -17 -> +46)
Really epic match! Despite the end score, it was pretty even with both of us having monstrous decks with lots of card-draw. Mithropon managed to prune to a much more efficient deck with multiple scrapping cards but I had more defensive bases and healing which allowed me to survive and slowly bludgeon my way to victory.
Yes, very good game. Any game that last beyond Turn 40 in Star Realms definitely has an epic feel. But somewhere around the 35th turn, the outcome became inevitable. Just couldn’t get through your bases faster than you could put them up.
The tide turns again! Such a great team final.
Season 12 starts today!

Not so much the tide turning as Mithrophon just getting his ass waxed again. I’m about tired of that bullshit.
Another wasted protect.
I lost to Annie as well, in an unreported game I was going to win the following turn. So yeah, great month.
Mordoofus.
TPO:
annie over josh

MOO KNEES!

Damn is all this for serious? SO CLOSE.
Also, do I have any mistakes?
And is ddtibbs vs chronic / shang still going?

Good games. I’ve got no idea why I suck so bad in playoffs. It’s a trend with no signs of abating.
