Now I feel like we start a new thread that just discussed the virtues and flaws of each Captain, and rank them.

Is Pike on that list?
Nevermind, I see it is updated.
And it is a great list. I am okay with Janeway being third. As long as she beats Kirk!
Too bad about Jonathan Archer, but it makes sense.
It’s a shame Captain Philippa Georgiou is so low on the list. Her time was short lived.
I apologize for doing this, but I really wanted to talk about the pilot of Star Trek Discovery again. Thinking back, what a horrible situation for a Captain to face. You’ve got your first officer basically going rogue and trying to start a war with a species based on a hunch. Even if she’s right, you can’t do it. You can’t attack the Klingons first because that’s what they understand as part of their warrior culture. You have to stick to your Federation values, even if it means you actually do precipitate war. At least, not without evidence, and Michael certainly provided none.
I thought Georgiou did the best she could, especially considering that Michael was also clearly her friend. Man, what an intense pilot that was, and what an unwinnable situation.
Bonus points to that episode for the blindingly bright light. Not only did it make the crew uncomfortable, it also made me as a viewer uncomfortable. And it sort of represents the situation they were in, stumbling around blindly looking for the right thing to do.

Captain Kirk could destroy an invincible computer simply by convincing it that it was wrong. He did this a number of times. He took down a Doomsday Machine that had cut a swath of doom all the way from another galaxy. He made sweet love with Joan Collins. He brokered peace with the Klingons. He asked God to His face why He needed a starship.
Okay, maybe forget that last one.
Uhhh, Joan Crawford? Surely you mean Joan Collins (in “The City on the Edge of Forever”).

Yep, Collins. Though there was that one week when he borrowed a warp shuttle and used the slingshot time travel effect to go back in time to check off his 20th Century Hollywood bucket list, so anything’s possible.

It was a perfectly reasonable question!
That wasn’t God anyway, it was Albert Einstein. Which I admit, is close to the same thing.
Finished up the final 2 episodes of season 2, that was one of the most visually stunning space battles in all of trek tv history. Season 3 is gonna be interesting!
Love them blue phasers on the Enterprise.
Ok now to watch Picard Episode 6. :)
Somehow we now live in a timeline where there is an abundance of Trek to watch.
I think one of the reasons I’m disappointed in ST: Picard so far is the expectations setup by Discovery. I just enjoyed Discovery so much, both seasons.
On the one hand, there’s the fact that Discovery isn’t really like any previous ST series, and I enjoyed that aspect of it as well, but it still setup this expectation in my head that ST: Picard would be similar in some ways, but it’s really not. In fact ST: Picard is again unlike any other Trek series, including Discovery.
Still, I can’t wait to find out what they come up with in Season 3 of Discovery. At this point I have faith in the show runners. They’re just really good.
Same, here. The pace, in particular, of Picard compared to Discovery has me feeling like Picard is at least 50% filler. Beyond that, the supporting cast of Discovery feels much more fleshed out, even though I like Picard (the character) more than Burnham, as the leads.
There’s nothing wrong with Burnham the character. Sonequa Martin-Green is just boring AF to watch on screen. (Though she actually manages to show some life/energy/excitement playing opposite Spock.) And that goes for The Walking Dead too. And some other STD cast members. And Enterprise. And Voyager. Though I would call STD just “uneven” compared to Ent or Voy which were all around really bad.
For me, it’s not the boring. It’s the attempt at seriousness and, even more so, gravitas. Stewart just has gravitas, Martin-Green tries so hard to have it, but falls well short.
On other cast members, there’s obviously ups and downs, but I enjoyed a lot of other cast in Discovery. In Picard, I either don’t absorb much about them or a actively want them to get off the screen.
Fwiw, I think these just appeared in one act and apparently were added post-production to flesh out the backstory a bit.
Yeah the android flashback seemed post production because it was so horrible to watch. :D

Frankly I think Patrick Stewart is the big issue that makes Picard less enjoyable than Discovery for me. Because of his past and his presence, he basically sucks all of the oxygen out of the show which does not allow the other roles to breathe. I almost wish they hadn’t named the show ST: Picard because the very title locks the whole show into his singular universe. Discovery on the other hand is something new and even when they introduced Spock and Pike, those characters filled in the plot instead of commandeering it.
Oh hey, already renewed for 2021.
.
Yes! High Five my fellow Discovery peeps in this thread!

Wow. Seems pretty crazy given Season 3 hasn’t been out yet. I guess this means Season 3 is completed just waiting for release and the execs liked what they saw?
