Maybe Fraud protection haha :)
According to AE CS, their systems have been down since this morning, so many AE customers are reporting being unable to make online purchases. It truly is a sign!
…which I’m choosing to ignore. :-)
UPDATE: It’s definitely a Cryptic issue, not an American Express issue. American Express is seeing the $1 pre-authorization charge, but Cryptic keeps reporting that my CC’s been denied. What a PITA.
I personally do not trust Cryptic’s account system in general. I have an inactive (maybe, keep reading) Champions Online account, that I cancelled after a month or two. The card associated with that account was and is indeed not being charged, but I could still log in to the game, even after the month ran out and I should not be allowed to log in, since I was not paying for it. Yet the account remained active - I could log in and play. I notified Cryptic of this via help ticket and after about a month and several form responses finally got a live person to respond, who removed all my personal/credit-card information from the account and assured me the matter was taken care of and the account was inactive. I then tried logging in again after all this just to make sure and the account still worked. That’s when I gave up and removed the CO software from my system. They did manage to remove the credit card information from the account however. For all I know I could still be playing CO for free if I wanted to use that account (I do not and will not).
This has made me very, very unlikely to ever buy or play a Cryptic game ever again, and I will NOT resubscribe to Champions Online, although I was going to originally in six months or so.
Thanks guys! I’m in. Have pre-ordered and all that jazz. Just cancelled my LOTR and WAR so I have spare subscription monies to throw this way.
I’ll be in from the get-go, however not part of the QT3 fleet. Some of my WoW guildmates will be forming a fleet and I’ll be part of that.
I should probably download the client in Steam as soon as possible to be honest, I doubt waiting until tomorrow would be wise.
Purchase Star Trek Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam? Check!
Purchase lifetime STO subscription? Check!
Ready for warp speed, Captain.

Pretty sure it’ll patch up the beta client.
Yep, if you have the beta client just keep using that.
Well the problem is that my beta client is not the Steam client. I downloaded the beta client and used a beta key obtained from one of the giveaways, before I got a pre-order on Steam. I have no qualms about downloading the client again anyway, it’s only what…6GB? My 20Mbit cable should manage that fairly quickly.

It IS the Steam client actually. You can get Steam to start downloading then close Steam and copy the beta folder to the right one in Steam.

Psst…can I have that old account of yours? Maybe I’ll actually bother to install that CO trash I keep hearing heaps of shit about and play it.

Meanwhile over in the Champions Online thread:
Good luck with your purchase, Mysterio!
Yeah, I’m on board to try out STO, but there are precious few MMOs for which I would consider buying a lifetime subscription. I’d do it for a Blizzard MMO, if they ever offered the opportunity. Which they won’t. But any other game–especially one that I may or may not stick with long-term? No way.
If I buy a new MMO and just play the free month and then drop it, I generally consider that a fair deal. If I stick with it for a while, so much the better. But I can’t imagine why I would want to put myself in the position of feeling obligated to stick with a game, just because I paid hundreds of dollars for a lifetime sub. Seems silly.

I ended up pre-ordering, so I’ll see you guys in the headstart. Definitely interested in a Qt3 fleet.
I also pre-ordered though I feel like a sucker…
Amazon, in my opinion, has the best preorder benefit with the borg bridge officer. The rest just end up getting replaced (although i heard the tier 2 spaceship has an extra engineer console slot which would be very nice until you replaced it).
Please remind me, as I must have missed it…CO is associated with which globally recognized IP…?
STO will not be allowed to fail. After 16 months, my lifetime sub will have paid for itself, and I’ll be free to play it as often as I want without having to pay a single, additional penny. Besides, the game and lifetime sub were Christmas/birthday gifts from my girlfriend. :-)

STO will not be allowed to fail
WAR will not FAIL!!!
SWO will not FAIL!!!
recognized IP doesn’t mean much for an mmo.
In less than 16 months, you be asked to pay for micro expansion like new zone!!

In less than 6 months, if Champions Online is any indication…
