Thanks for the tip, patching now!
Hey, I got the free to play email too. Think I will jump back in tonight.
I downloaded the game, but every time I try to log in it crashes. I reset my password on the STO site, but I’m still getting crashes when I try to log in. Really, Cryptic? If it’s not ready for primetime, don’t send out that damn invite.
Ugh, did some Googling and apparently the game will not start if you have Teamviewer running. Shut Teamviewer down and now I’m logged in and patching.
WTF? Seriously, Cryptic?
Oh yeah, back in the saddle! :p

Yeah, it took me about an hour to remember how to fight in a starship. Little Romulan escort ships were kicking my heavy cruiser around. But it all came back to me and I went up three ranks last night and hit Captain, which means, yes, GALAXY CLASS STARSHIP, BITCHES.
FINALLY.

THREE ranks in a night?! Did they vastly boost XP rate?
What’s wrong with your haaaaaaaaaaands
XP rate is boosted now that its F2P (or at least thats what I got from reading all the blogs). I figure they want people to spend money on stuff and max out a character. So that they can start a new character and spend and max that one out also. Rinse and Repeat.
Also by 3 levels I think he means he was Commander 8, and ranked up to Captain 1.
Many of the c-store items are not account wide, so you have to buy them for each character. ( Ships and costumes are account wide for sure).
I just got my 2nd stipend of C-store points this week. I gotta rank up my tactical officer so I can get her a fancy new ship.

I played when it first came out, but didn’t renew my account beyond the first free month. It was fun, but I couldn’t justify the expense at the time.
So when I logged in last night for the first time in almost two years, I had to sit through several minutes of achievement/reward text which resulted in enough experience for me to be promoted from 42 to 43. I logged out a few minutes later after I realized that A) I had no idea how to play and B) that I’d have to respec my character.
Indeed, mandatory respecs for all!
And soon when the ground changes are figured out, we will have to do it all over again.
It’s been so long (a year and a half?) that I’m afraid of many things. (Patching now.)
Can I still work the space combat or have I forgotten?
What’s a duty officer?
They changed ground combat didn’t they?
I have to respec? Good thing I have c-store points on my account I guess.
I was max level then, I dunno what it is now (was Vice Admiral).
I’m screwed.
I agree with this. Cryptic have sort of specialized a bit in UGC, and I suspect what they do with NWN may surprise everyone. If it’s something like a scaled-up version of what was possible with NWN1 and NWN2, it could be a sleeper hit.
Games are incredibly more immersive when you have a real human being GM making the game world come “alive” around you. I first tasted that in a NWN2 PW (permanent world) in which I was with a small team following a quest given by clues. At one point, a passing tramp (normally just an NPC type) came “alive” and started talking to us and conversing with us about the next clue. As the clues developed, it really felt ultra-realistic, right up until the GM-controlled boss fight at the end. Absolutely amazing feeling.
I still find space combat easy and fun , it hasn’t changed much. Make sure to look over what skills you want to use on your ship, so you respec your character accordingly.
Duty Officers are a mini-game of sorts added in Season 5, you will be walked through the whole process when you log on again.
Ground combat has a a FPS mode now, that allows more shooting and direct control, I personally like it alot, as it gives a more hands on feel.
Respec’s are free the first time you log back on, and its actually best to test your character build on the test server before going with it on the live server.
Yep Vice Admiral is Max, I think it will be listed as level 51? Once F2P hits. I recall them saying its being tested on Tribble, as it would seem F2Pers are too stupid to understand the previous ranking system of Ensign>Lt.>Lt.Com>Com>Capt>Rear Lower>Rear Upper>Vice Admiral.
Remember there is a F2P section now that will answer most of the basic questions about what you can and cannot do.
-Yep I remembered space combat, I went out happily blasting away Borg for a while.
-The skill tree is much easier and far more to the point of what I recall. Yes I would like my warp core to produce more power. Clicky. It was pretty simple.
-Duty Officers look suspiciously like TOR’s sending companions on missions. But pretty neat little minigame to make you actually feel like the captain of a ship. Gosh, I know right?
-It showed me as Vice Admiral 51. Way cooler than that Vice Admiral 50 guy. (The numbers are dumb, imo.)
-Did a few daily missions and had no ground combat so I didn’t try that out yet. Probably be easy enough.
-Overall it looks a lot like it did when you had to pay for it. But better. I’m not really seeing where the ‘F2P beatstick’ resides in this model.

Crap, I think I dismissed the duty officer dialogue when it came up. Wonder if I can get it back?
Huh. I’ve got some kind of graphics bug that minimizes the window when I try to change the screen resolution from the default. And yeah, I’ve updated my drivers. Guess I’ll give this one a pass for now.
I did the same thing, but there was a mission thing in the mission log to meet a guy at the academy who gave me officers and walked me through what that was all about.
The happened to me also. However when I exited the game completely and loaded it u again it stopped happening.
The officer with those duty officers is the catman at the starfleet academy
