Star Trucker aka Europa Truck Simulator

It’s out now, including on PC and console Game Pass. As the thread title suggests, it’s very much a truck sim game in space. If you thought reverse trailer parking was tricky on a 2D plane…

This game adds a bunch of in-and-out-of-truck busywork as various systems degrade over time and need power cells and other parts replaced. So far, the power drain is greatly toned down from the demo (at least on normal difficulty), but the economy is still pretty brutal early on given the low rewards for individual jobs and the high cost of parts and repairs. I’ve managed to dig myself into a pretty deep hole - pro tip, make one of your first priorities buying and installing some new air filters. Or, if you don’t want to be bothered by all that stuff, just turn down the difficulty and enjoy the ride.

It does seem like the narrative element that was briefly introduced in the demo is extended in the full game, but not clear yet how long it lasts and whether it does anything more interesting than fancy tutorialisation - I did get invited to play a trivia game, which was tricky given how little time I’d had to get to know the universe.

One caveat to early adopters: I’ve read/heard that there is currently no way to remap the keyboard keys. While I’m sure this will be added soon, it’s something to be aware of if you are a M+K user.

I’m keeping an eye on this thread for comments from our insightful Qt3 residents. Currently engrossed in other things (e.g. Star Wars Outlaws) at the moment, but as a long-time space trucker in Elite Dangerous this game seems like it should appeal to me.

I played using my 360 wired controller this morning, and played up to the point where I delivered my first load and went to the dock to get a second mission.

I really like it so far!

When the game told me to turn on the music, I literally went around the whole truck checking every dial on the dashboard and got out of the chair and checked around the whole cabin and went back to the chair and checked the last of the dashboard, and it was the very last thing I checked, because of course it was. That’s just good design. It forced me to check everything before I found it. Good thing I didn’t get lucky developers! :)

Anyway, good choice of music, I love the feel of it.

I only played enough of the demo to realize trucking games aren’t for me, but I just want to say good job on the thread title.

It was either that or a tortured play on Galaxy Trucker.

Reviews seem pretty positive. I was already interested in trying this out, but what with it showing up on Game Pass it’s basically a no-brainer at this point.

Awww, you beat me to it! Well played, @Ginger_Yellow! Although it took me a hot second to spot.

Should have gotten Deep Purple for the soundtrack, though.

Maybe some Grateful Dead too. Trips probably don’t much longer or stranger than this.

Brilliant thread title!

I have my eye on this one but I’m gonna wait for more impressions and maybe a few patches.

This was.pretty fun! But I admit that my brain does not have the spatial abilities to reverse into dock and pickup cargo in three dimensions. I managed to bump the cargo out of the pickup area, making it even more difficult to align. Then I smashed a hole in my hull trying to bump it back into alignment!
