Star Wars Battlefront - one of the worst gaming experiences ever

Well, maybe I’m in the minority then but I see no point in getting a M/K setup for this game. The autoaim is very generous and with a controller I still manage to average around 1.0 K/D in my games. But I also don’t think that the game works in competitive play; there’s just to many random factors: Who gets to play as Boba Fett? Who gets to drive the AT-AT? Who gets a fighter? Who gets a Thermal Imploder? That’s all luck, and they vastly change your options to improve your K/D and score. M/K will have a very limited impact (my guess) compared to if you get to rain down Orbital strikes from an AT-AT.

jpinard, that sucks that you had such a bad experience with this. Just to affirm what some others have already pointed out in this thread, I think you’re misunderstanding some aspects of the game. For starters, the way equipment and cards are distributed is very democratic. Almost socialist, in fact! This absolutely is not one of those games a la Battlefield where veteran players get a leg-up. And I have no idea where some of you figure that people on consoles are using a mouse and keyboard. I have never heard of that. My guess is that you’re not quite appreciating the autoaim and snap to aim features.

However, I can certainly sympathize with your complaint about players who spend scads of free time getting better than you. I can’t think of any shooter where this isn’t an issue, but I can assure you the shooter where this is less of an issue is a shooter that will be popular with more casual gamers. Like, say, Star Wars Battlefront. :)

Also, the game is very generous with upgrade options, even though many of them are gated behind leveling ranks, which are pretty much inevitable with enough games played. And you can earn spacebucks to reduce the cooldown time of your favorite cards by playing solo, or splitscreen, or co-op. You can even earn spacebucks playing the pretty good companion app game! Which is free. It’s a really cool little strategy game. But even with spacebucks and the level gating, as I said, this is a very democratic game. I think you’re assuming far too much about the benefit given to players who spend more time with it. Battlefront was clearly designed to mitigate this.

As for your tech support issue, well, yeah, that sounds like a pain in the ass. But it is a T-rated game and definitely NOT an M. Battlefront is a rare breed of T-rated shooter intended to be family friendly. That’s actually one of its selling points.

n00b. Everyone knows you can’t use your orbital strikes while you’re driving the AT-AT.

-Tom, hardcore Battlefront apologist

You do know that that one of the weapons you have when driving the AT-AT is an Orbital Strike, right? Middle weapon, activated with Triangle on PS4?

I play it on PC. I love it. I am level 36 so maybe I am a bit…obsessed.
bf3_cliffski for any PC players who want a vaguely competent teammate

I have this.

I’ve been thinking about getting the XIM4 for Destiny on PS4. I think it should put me on a more even level with those who are using it (except for the lack of a fireteam and possibly ‘best roll’ weapons).

Tom, not sure you read my follow up post that had key information and clarification.

  • Talking to the best players I could in the game more than half said they used keyboard mouse switch and I posted a link from Amazon for such a device. This is also used a lot in Destiny to give people a major advantage in mp. One of the individuals I chatted with had 60 kills to 15 for everyone else combined. I started my conversation by complimenting him on his play, and jokingly noted that nearly 20 of his kills were me. I asked if he had advice for someone who was struggling and he told me to toss my gamepad and get Kim switch (I think he meant Xim). He said I’d never go back. Asked if he had any tips for a gamepad player and he didn’t.

  • I played the companion app a lot, and didn’t see any space bucks. Exactly how much do you need to play before you start getting them? Including tutorial ones I’ve played around 15 games.

  • My irritation with EA is they took an M rated shooter and used that as the only guide for a Star Wars game rated “T” for everyone. their focus groups and surveys were all done with the last Battlefront games which meant they ignored the biggest segment of the Star Wars fan base… younger kids and older adults who may not be super skilled. If EA wasn’t so lazy they could have easily instituted lobbies or skill based match ups. Sticking new players in with seasoned pros and no way whatsoever to communicate with anyone but “friends” is ridiculous in a team based game.

OK I do not have the game yet. I did play alot of the previous SW Battefront games.

They way I enjoyed those was to create a private server for me and my friends, then populated with bots. Was very fun for us as we competed against each other, and we could adjust the bot level to fit our skills. Eventually we got better, probably faster than if we had played a full server and acted as fodder.

I have also done that in Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm more recently to improve my skills at that game.

Is that an option in the new Battlefront?

The only survey I can find is one that was directed at players of the current Battlefront game. It would be kinda hard trying to track down players of the ten-year-old game and even get them to remember specifics. Plus the Battlefront games have always been rated T. In fact, I can’t think of a Star Wars game that’s been rated higher. It’s always been a more family-friendly franchise.

The Force Unleashed games were M, iirc. They were an outlier, though.

I love this game. Being casual friendly by design is one of its best aspects. If you are having trouble succeeding I recommend staying in the smaller game modes until you are comfortable. Survivability is a lot lower in the big 40 player matches.

Even The Force Unleashed games were T. No gore.

Totally disagree. Have a blast with this game. Love dogfighting and chasing the Millenium Falcon around.

I’m glad to see so many enjoying the game so much. Gives me hope. I didn’t realize I was juxtaposing “Battlefront” for “Battlefield”. Their focus groups and surveys were filled out mostly by Battlefield 4 and Hardline players. Now I understand why people were confused with my statements. The tech agent specifically said Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline. But I’ve been writing “Battlefront” all this time not realizing I was using the wrong word. Dumb of me.
