Hmm - ah, the original movie got re-released over the winter, right? Maybe that’s what it is. He mentioned that he’s going to see it with his dad over the holidays because that’s what they’ve done back when the original came out.

Don’t worry, the feeding frenzy continued in the other topic.
In other news, yeah the trilogy became close to a Christmas tradition here, and I actually saw Rogue One on Christmas day which was fun.
I do miss the days of Lucasarts filling in lots of details around the movies with games. It’s a shame that they really only got to do that with The Phantom Menace. We all saw the movie, and then we got that awesome podracing game which showed us some of the other wonderful worlds on which there were podracing venues.
If they were still around to do that today there’s a LOT of material in Rise of Skywalker that could be mined for some amazing games.
I know, right? I love me some good Star Wars video games. It’s an IP practically tailor made for the medium since the days of Atari.
I refuse to accept the idea that any use of the number 42 is not a Hitchhikers reference. Even Tolkien traveled forward in time and then put in a nod with Gimli’s kill-count at the Battle of the Hornburg.
I’ve said it before but I think by far the best Star Wars-ness since Empire Strikes Back has been in the form of games. Tons of classics in many genres.
Saw it. It’s a stupid movie that I still enjoyed much more than the Last Jedi, but much as it happened when people saw me reading most Extended Universe novels, if someone asks me if it’s good, I’m gonna say “No, it’s pretty dumb and bad, but if you like Star Wars you might enjoy it”.
I saw it this morning with my wife. I asked her what she thought, and she said, “That was kind of a mess, wasn’t it?” She asked me what my favorite part was, and I couldn’t come up with one.
But hey, I guess that’s what Star Wars is supposed to be, so what do I know?

No matter how bad it was I would have bought it on disc. Completionism is a harsh mistress, and that Best Buy steelcase collection won’t complete itself.
Fortunately I liked it more than you did. Story problems aside, I’ve always enjoyed the set design and art of the films.
That said, the red stormtroopers were on screen for what, 15 seconds max? That felt like a cash grab aimed at the toy aisle.
I saw it, and I liked it. I much preferred it to The Last Jedi. I’d have liked it if all three films had been this quality, but oh well.
I’m thinking this movie will at least be interesting in a morbidly curious sort of way.

I thought it was the best of the sequel trilogy. It was about as good as Solo and Rogue One for me; not classic Star Wars but in keeping with the cheesy serial feel that originally inspired Lucas.
It really makes me wish Abrams had worked harder on the story for TFA.
I watched this last week. I like it better than The Last Jedi.
So much variation in this thread.
However from what I can tell, consensus is that it’s better than TLJ, which I enjoyed well enough despite certain scenes/themes.
I shall be seeing this in 2.5 hrs.
In Spanish :(

Please tell me subtitles. Because otherwise missing the voice of Ian McDermot is a shame.

But what if he did the Spanish dub? I’d pay money for that.
At least it’s not Latin-American Spanish!
(I joke, I’m sure our dubs sound as bad to people over the pond as theirs do to us. Heck, after living in the states and thus not watching anything dubbed for 6 years, I can’t stand dubs anymore)
Here in Madrid you can see everything VOSE (subtitled)
Hahaha hahaha.
Ahahahahahahha.
Wishful thinking. As in delusional and I wish it were so.
Spanish pride/laziness prohibits making an effort for films like this, so everything is dubbed.
EVERYTHING.
I used to watch Fresh Prince of Bel Air in Spanish. It. Does. Not. Work.
Some Exceptions in specific cinemas, of which there is but one where I live, and it is quite artsy and old, no SW.
