I’m no SW expert…but I thought Vader cut off Luke’s hand?
Luke is great in The Last Jedi. The interpretations of the Rashomon stuff in this thread is kind of out there though. Luke only ignites his lightsaber to attack Kylo in Kylo’s falsehood version of the events because he is a evil sith asshole.

Luke returns the favor at the end of Jedi.
Oh? I missed that part I Think. I have only watched the original trilogy twice lol.
After he cuts off Vader’s hand, he looks at his own robo-hand and realizes the act is bringing him closer to the dark side. It’s part of what makes him stop and reassess what he’s doing.
I think I glossed over the last parts of that film. This is the one with the Ewoks right?
It’s the one after that really old one that Spider-Man talks about in Civil War. It has Ewoks, yes.

Luke returns the favor in 6 and learns more about his father and possible future.
Edit: I should have kept reading before replying.
It isn’t the same thing because Vader cut off Luke’s real hand, while Luke was basically damaging equipment.

The jury still finds Skywalker guilty, for intent to kill. They did not find the defence’s argument, that Skywalker was deliberately singling out the mechanical hand “to disarm(!) his opponent” convincing, as he seemed to also be scrunching his eyes up a lot and probably couldn’t see jack. There was a decent amount of video evidence.
On appeal, we submit the video evidence says otherwise. In this photo, defendant Skywalker is seen immediately after having broken Vader’s guard, and had his eyes open as he struck the disabling blow.

I just watched TLJ for the third time, and it has gotten better in every viewing. This is the first time I noticed the difference between Ben and Luke’s telling of that event. Ben recalled that he woke up with Luke comically raging (almost like Ben himself) and swinging the lightsaber at Ben, who quickly defended and fought back. Luke however told how he read Ben’s mind, and then was tempted for a second before turning away the lightsaber but just at that time, Ben attacked Luke who defended.
It’s a great way of telling the same scene from two perspective, and I can even say Kylo Ren’s retelling of the scene was based on exactly what he believed. Ben’s mind filled in the details as how he views the world and others full of rage.
The interesting thing is that TLJ had a character development arc for Luke, which is quite a remarkable thing to do for a character that well settled. But all that many fans remember from TLJ, is Luke chucking away the lightsaber, and then they complain that ROTW Luke was different.
I’d say ROTW Luke was direct continuation of TLJ Luke.
