What kind of internet connections does Bioware think we have in Europe - “We’re not going to invite EU player to beta because their ISDN lines cant download our beta files”…?

20+GiB is nothing, as long as you do not have XBL/PSN download speeds. Heck, put the beta file up on TPB and will probably get 10MiB/s or faster on it.

On the delay. Hopefully that means we’ll get a LUA UI so I can get rid of the ugly blue bordered stuff they’ve been cramming everywhere.

Where do you see this? The only comment I saw was them saying they’re not going to invite EU right at this moment because they were just about to release a new build. They didn’t want anyone (NA or EU for that matter) to have to download 30GB only to find out that oops, the build you just spent hours/days downloading, yeah well delete it and start over again. Better to make folks wait until the build was finished and then have them download the new build.

While I wish for the same, I really doubt it’s on the way. I’m pretty sure most of the official PR on the subject hasn’t given any indication that LUA is coming, and in fact is probably the opposite. I don’t hate the blue-bordered stuff that much, but I do prefer minimalist UIs and more flexibility than I’m likely to have.

I also think there will likely be no new game systems implemented between now and launch. Everything they’re talking about adding now seems to be scheduled for post launch, like dual spec’ing which was sort of confirmed today. That tells me they’re locking features down and working on bug fixes in order to try and meet the holiday launch date they’re shooting for.

30GB is A Big Deal to most of the UK, seeing as we average 5Mbps for our home broadband and 30GB would take bloody ages. I can imagine there are parts of Europe where that’s a lot worse. A lot of us also have bandwidth caps.

Getting 10MB/s is a pipedream for 99% of their customers in Europe.

Closer to 40GBs. They probably don’t want to spend the money for local CDN distribution in Europe, though. There’s probably also also issues like localizations not being ready, local servers not being deployed in Europe and transatlantic ping player data not being particularly useful for testing purposes…

I was thinking they might get out in December, but if they’re still hemming and hawing about beta weekends and talking about data crunching and decisions to be made, it seems like release is fairly far off.

That’s my take too. At this point, it’s looking like a Christmas release won’t happen unless they just say “screw quality” and release a half-ready product. I sure hope they take the time to make sure everything works and everything is polished, even if it means missing the holiday season.

I think in theory a lot will depend on the next build that comes out. After all, nobody really knows how much further along the new build will be from the build people have seen. If it’s got incremental changes, then I think I would agree with you. If it’s a lot further along, then yeah, I would think a 2012 release would be in the cards.

As for game mechanics changing/not changing, again I think this build will reveal a lot. I think it’s possible that some mechanics will change in the new build (not the big things like the combat system, or the classes). But I can’t see a whole lot changing after this.

I guess I could have just said “I think a lot of things depend on what the new build looks like.”

Scandinavia and NL/DE, yes. The rest of Europe, not so much. We’re expecting some proper stats by next year though :)

Again, the superfan "X must get together with Y in the sequel) slash people on the forums are their own subculture, but this whole “no gay people in Star Wars after bioware made a point of having both gay and straight romance plotlines in their flagship CRPGs” was more straightforward than that. And in practice it’s not like straight people run into all kinds of games where it’s gay romance only.

I don’t go on the official forms for anything, anymore than I’d participate in WoW or CoD official forums or a youtube comments thread. But that isn’t necessary to have an opinion one way or the other.
