I think this was “everyone who signed up”.

Yup, I just got the email for a future beta test sometime this month too.

Are any QT3’ers hooking up in-game during this weekend’s test? <GWH>Allegedly, of course.</GWH>

I don’t think Skyrim has multiplayer… ;)

WTF!? I just got a beta invite!

Unfortunately, I have no idea if it’s the beta for this weekend and if so, do they really expect me to download 25GB overnight? And swtor.com is down of course.

On top of that, I’ve been so occupied with both Skyrim and Battlefield 3 that adding SWTOR is going to be nuts! And this weekend is the worst since I’m going out of town for 2 weeks on Monday. Ugh.

Could they have picked a worse time to send me a beta invite? Why you gotta troll Bioware?

Today’s invites are for the stress test next (I think?) week.

Scroll up.

From the devs:

To answer other queries: for those of you who have been emailed this afternoon, as the email says, you have been selected to test in an upcoming Beta Test Weekend (which this FAQ refers to). You will be invited - and be able to download the client - closer to the upcoming weekend.

In other words, there are two Testing Weekends currently on the calendar. This weekend (11th-13th of November) for which invites have already been sent. You can tell if you have an invite to this weekend by the fact that the email has those dates in it.

Everyone who is signed up to test is eligible for the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend, and notification on when you can download the game client will be sent closer to the weekend’s start.

ooops… .wrong thread.

I have to say I am impressed by the level of polish this game has. I think it’s going to go over pretty well actually.

I don’t think can bring myself to actually PLAY it on release, but I think that’s wow burnout in me talking.

With my luck I’ll get in for Thanksgiving weekend and I’ll be out of town for most of that.

As a result of the past 4 hours, I have switched from “thinking about cancelling my pre-order” to “this game is going to consume a lot of my gaming time and I’ll probably have to buy another copy for my son to play with me.”

What changed, Ryan? I’m only a few hours in (level 7), but I’m just not feeling it right now.

My hands-on experience went from 0 to 4 hours over the past 4 hours :)

I’ll agree it has a lot in common with WoW-like MMO, but the bioware conversation trees with NPC is something I really enjoy. Also, the cinematics and music make this a must-have in our Star Wars crazy household: we’re a family that gathers 'round the tv to watch the clone wars cartoon, so we’re definitely in the “easiest to market to” demographic

I’ve… heard it is basically the same feel of playing mass effect online. So if you liked that style of dialog and cinematic feel to everything, you will probably like this too, if that is the case of course. Obviously it is still a mmorpg so it shares some conventions with wow, but i’d imagine it is more refined and has some new interesting mechanics, i’d imagine.

I’ve not canceled my preorder.

I’m thinking a lot of it comes down to what setting you like. Many feel that fantasy has been done to death, so a switch to sci-fi is just the ticket (especially a ‘known’ sci-fi environment). My impression thus far is… I guess I prefer swords and sorcery.

Ryan has my thoughts spot on. Plus the fact that I am really burned out on the WoW-esq world, SWTOR will fit the bill nicely.

I almost want to drop the beta and just wait for the final product, heh.

Well it is almost exactly like a star wars full conversion of wow. Everything is analogous to wow; but it is done with near-blizzard levels of polish.

What stands out exceptionally is the wrapper of the questing experience, which definitely takes things to a whole new plateau. The voice work is excellent and the interaction and seemingly meaningful choices you can make really draw one back into the questing process.

Where wow levelling has become a somewhat impersonal questing grind; swtor definitely makes thing intimate and engaging. And there is no debating that the general atmosphere is very neo-star warsy*, a great deal of craft as gone into this.

*neo-star wars because it has so little in common with the original 3 movies; but it seems to fit in very well with the whole expanded universe thing.

I got a beta invite to an upcoming test. Probably the Thanksgiving one. I cancelled the preorder I made long ago after I decided I was sick of MMOs. Maybe this will change my mind. But then maybe it won’t since I"m not a big fan of Star Wars.

Got in for a few hours yesterday and today, one more copy they have sold. I loved it, cant get in now but would rather just wait. Yep its Wow but man do the voices just make the game come alive.
