I got a kind of sketchy looking email and would advise people to go through www.swtor.com/tester for the download and rsvp stuff. I’m pretty sure it all still works that way, although there’s sometimes a little congestion countdown.

When can we actually start playing? I have the client downloaded but it won’t let me click the play button.

When you can start playing is sometime near the 25th til sunday. Yes it is that vague because this weekend is to test the launch staggering setup. Depending on when you got your invite, then when you accepted, and then when you downloaded (were let download) all factors in to how much time you might actually get to play.
Beta is beta, and this particular one isn’t bout play as much as testing login/auth/setup.
They stated that some folk won’t be able to log in til sunday and to not be surprised.
…Well, screw that then. Not downloading 15GB for potentially a few hours possible play.
So, I just finished reading Revan last night, which is basically a prequel to SWTOR.
Does this mean…
that at some point we’re going to see an expansion where we fight the Emperor, and are assisted by Revan and the Ghost of the Exile? I’m thinking so. I know there’s a Tomb of Revan in the game, but he doesn’t need to actually be in it, and I doubt Bioware is going to lose the opportunity to let players fight one last time alongside the main character from KOTOR.
On a side note, to anyone who’s played Sith: have you encountered Lord Scourge, Wrath of the Emperor? Seems to me he’s going to be a NPC.
Has it been confirmed whether you can use the beta download to play the early start?
I already downloaded it, but it would be nice if i didn’t have to download the entire 20gb client again during the early start.
There is a big Scourge-related spoiler that is in pretty wide currency, but I still dunno if you’d want it spoiled. Be advised!
Scourge
He’s a companion. A Republic companion.
“Hopefully,” as of last BW utterances. Maybe not, maybe substantially patched.
Interesting. That seems kind of brutal for the people it affects.
So, I can’t get past the security questions! Yay!
I’m glad pre-ordering and getting all this set up nets me about 45 minutes of possible play time before the beta is opened to the masses.
There’s a couple of Canadian doctors I’d like to punch
It would be nice, but I have my doubts. I’ve downloaded the client three different times now.
I had a little trouble with that last night until I could actually remember what answers I put in for them several months ago.
I’ve entered everything it COULD be I think. I’m pretty sure the site is so slammed it doesn’t matter what I enter

I don’t think this is the mega open beta. We have a month til launch, and only giving a small weekend (fri-mon… no thurs) doesn’t seem like the an open beta. They have been saying that folk will get pre time before launch which would lean to actual open of servers possibly a week or less before Dec 20 street date. They could squeeze in a open , do you have an account let’s go, beta for a week or so say dec 2nd ->dec 12th to build buzz. At least once they know they can throttle the incoming masses effectively.
Maybe there is still hope?
Also those having troubles getting into the account page, this -is- the throttling to some degree. Yeah they are probably slammed as well, but they mentioned that getting straight errors when trying to sign in to get the client leaned on the throttling side. Then again I may have completely horrid information. I am just trying to help. I continued yesterday arguing with their site til I got past it, something like 30 login attempts with it erroring out at various parts.
They said no more beta weekends and I think the implication was no-more-anything except maybe a dribble of full-time beta invites.
The thing with SWTOR beta access has always been to check www.swtor.com/tester frequently when you expect an invite might happen (ie, usually tues-wed before an invite, or whenever you hear about it on various forums) because the emails were oddly delayed and/or looked fake anyway. I wish I’d been clearer about it yesterday and earlier, as I didn’t really have any trouble RSVPing. I guess a few hundred thousand people piling on kind of broke whatever BW had set up.
Hopefully the “staggered access” thing - especially only letting people in on Sunday(!) - only applies to people who RSVP and download the client like, Friday-Saturday. It just seems mean otherwise, beta-is-not-a-right rules notwithstanding.

I dunno I might be missing something but it says I am in the beta but the client doesn’t do anything for me. Are we supposed to be able to play now or are the servers down? Some error pops up but it goes away so fast I can’t read what it is saying. I am pretty sure I downloaded everything but I have no idea.
You can patch it, but you can’t play it yet. Another email should hit your mailbox later this week, letting you know when you can start.
I think you may still need to RSVP, either to make the downloader work (not sure) or to make sure you aren’t stuck way back in the staggered login system (assuming they go ahead with that terrible idea.)
