I logged about 6 hours of game time yesterday on a few diff pve servers and noted no bugs, problems, or crashes - ran really smooth for me

servers are in Texas (thus the central standard time) , There is a -strong- assumption that the server backend is entirely SoE.
Beta doesn’t ever tell you what is wrong, it is your job to report wrong, theirs to fix it how they prefer. Yesterday lightside/darkside and companion affection wasn’t working. Today patch and it is. Timing for group talk is better, lag is better, queue system is longer -sigh- but that is to be expected.
Find ways to break it, that is the best thing you can do for them right now.
I had a similar problem with tab targeting, but it is working fine now. What I figured out was that I had checked a box in the configuration settings for the UI somewhere which said “ignore NPCs when tab targeting” or something to that effect. I thought it meant ignore things like vendors, etc. but it really means ignore mobs. I guess it’s for PvP. So I unchecked that and, voila, tab targeting works fine.
Other than that, the game is surprisingly good. Surprising to me at least. Sith Sorc and a Republic Trooper so far, just messing around really, level 10 or so. Makes me happy about my preorder at least.

In one of the starting areas for the Bounty Hunter class in SWTOR, there’s a wookiee playing a game against a droid…
And both the droid’s arms are laying to either side of it. It’s the little things that make me laugh and love this game more.
Do you have “Auto Target Closest Enemy” enabled in preferences?

No. This game seems to have a lot of weird preference options auto-set. Thanks, I’ll try that.

- UI : still horrible
Not being able to move windows around, and having it auto close stuff when you open something else is bad.
Try having the left and right row of action buttons open in 1920x1200 resolution. Oh thats right, the top row of buttons disappear below the minimap when playing some of the pvp instances (and probably other things).
-
no x-realm PVP makes you wait a long time on pvp.
-
and you cant pick which pvp instance you want to do
-
Companions cant level past 60 until your character is 17+. And most of the missions are 3-6 minutes, so you can forget about sending your companion off on a mission while you sleep. Perhaps they are longer in the 300+ range however.
-
Flashpoint Instances seem well made
-
Pretty cinematic, and you do find yourself trying to listen to the talk from npcs.
-
too much running back and forth and back and forth at the start
-
I suspect you’ll want to make 1 of each class to see all the story arches.
-
Even though you need to focus on your main if you want to access all the good stuff
-
Graphics are so/so. Some good, some that look like they were taken directly from KOTOR data files.
-
Again, the UI is horrible
-
2011 MMO still has login queues… Saw one with Estimated Login time, 1d18h :) Glad mine only had 3h.

I thought the UI was good when i tried it last weekend. I’m also 1920X1200.
I didn’t try pvp though so maybe that is true that certain pvp only elements cover it.
Login queues are not unexpected in beta, but obviously if they remain similar in release there are going to be heads rolling.

I also run at 1900 and I really don’t have any issues with the UI.
It targets the closest enemy if I don’t have one targeted and if you press it more times it cycles through everything nearby. I don’t really need it to do much more than that, but it TOR it does…nothing. I’ll give Wombat’s tip a try, though. Maybe that’ll fix it. Thanks.

Then you might be surprised to find out this is how Early Access is working when the game launches. People will be admitted in waves based on when they entered their pre-order code. So this weekend is a simulation of that.
I keep thinking to myself, “Hmm, I should save here,” based on my usual CRPG saving-instincts.
I still keep trying to F5 every time I’m getting ready to start an important conversation or go back out questing.
If the Trooper is as bad ass of an AOE damage beast as the Bounty Hunter, I am going to love playing one. Loving the character choices of the BH, though.
My favorite bounty hunter mission on first planet (spoiler)
I really liked the one where you’re on a mission to kill the accountant.
So i get to the accountant, fight off his guards and then he starts begging for his life. I indulge him and he offers to crash his current gang’s finances and after some prodding, he offers to send some of the money my way.
I tell him to do this and then i will let him leave. After he does it, i tell him he was a fool to believe me and kill him anyway.
Then i cut off his head, go to his wife and give her the bag containing his head. This scene would not have been nearly as complete without the voice over of her screaming as she ran out of the cantina.
That’s exactly what I did when I played that mission. :)
I suspect the game will follow the standard MMO curve, in terms of interface stuff. It’ll launch with a UI that is serviceable but lacking some features that are standard with other, more established, games, and which has limited customization options. Then, as the community of actual long-term players grows right after launch, they’ll announce what amounts to a rolling series of enhancements that will, after about six months, bring the game UI up to snuff for 90% of the players. The other 10% will bitch and moan until they allow UI mods, and then spend their time arguing about whose re-skin is the best.
I agree though that I really, really want to be able to reposition the freakin’ windows. Right now, only chat seems movable. Resizing, too, is necessary, as right now the various UI elements are ginormous sometimes.

I played the Jedi Knight up to level 10 this afternoon. It actually took a lot longer than I was expecting, coming from Rift and (especially the new streamlined) WoW. Got my Sentinel subclass and a second lightsaber, and gawked at the talent trees a bit. There seem to be a lot of things to keep track of already, with a second mechanic to keep track of in addition to focus points, and a few moderate cooldown powers that’ll probably be used every fight. Going goody-two-shoes was as boring as expected, which is why I’m doing it in beta instead of at launch. It looks like there are options to be an asshole evil Jedi, and some of those dialogue options are… horrible. Like, just outright insulting everybody always. Baldur’s Gate style evil. I don’t know if I’d say it’s funny or just bad.
It’s KotOR with MMO mechanics, so exactly what I expected in that department. I’m alright with it. I’ll play through at least a couple characters once it launches then probably shelf it for a year like every other MMO I play. I’m interested in what they do with the Bounty Hunter and Sith storylines, anyway.
I had an awesome bug where the jedi council lady (Shan?) turned miniature during cutscenes. Like, we’re talking two inches tall with the camera way too high to see her most of the time. Right at the end, the camera finally swung down and caught her, standing on her seat in the council. Nobody else in the room mentioned it. Fucked up shit happens in the Star Wars universe I guess.
I think this approach would be more acceptable if it were 2006 and not 2011 and if this wasn’t a major MMO with a huge budget coming from a well-established developer.
So what’s Bioware’s excuse?
Swtor already has added most of the advancements ui mods added to wow. The UI is for the most part Post Wow (and i use the term lightly as all of the advancements wow made to the mmorpgs UI came from player mods, not blizzard). The only things that coments to mind they are missing are:
[ul]
[li]Resize & move UI elements
[/li][li]Sort inventory (i am 85% sure this was not in place)
[/li][li]Auto sell junk items. I might have missed this because you can tell your companion to take your junk items and sell them, but i couldn’t find how to sell junk items when you yourself were at a vendor.
[/li][li]Nude Wookie Mod
[/li][li]Extreme customization of bars. I want my bars to mimic my nostromo n52, but to be fair, VERY few (maybe 2) ui mods in wow allowed this. Beyond this it would be nice to be able to freely move bars, but they do give you pretty nice options for adding them. Also let you customize where the companion bar goes when expanded which is nice.
[/li][/ul]
