AFAICT most MMOs require you to provide full subscription information including a credit card number immediately at launch, even though you’ve got 30 days. I’m pretty sure that’s the way Rift, AoC, LOTRO, and STO all worked.

Also they gave away a whole bunch of pre-order codes to people that didn’t purchase the game. For example, IIRC everyone who went to their last PAX presentation was given a pre-order code.

Early access from the 13th, I suppose that means that those who got their codes early get 2 days extra, and those of us who got it late, still only get 1 or 2 days, thereby increasing the gap in levels for PVP Purposes.

Rats.

Bah we won’t know until the 13th?

Wonder when we know when we can start

Oh, it says we’ll know the 13th. Bah.

Supposedly, the earlier you registered your pre-order code, the earlier you get in on early start. Anyone beat noon on july 21st?

I only preordered during the big beta weekend a few weeks ago and I was really hoping to get in by day 3 (next Saturday). Now I’m feeling pretty good about being able to play on the weekend, which is what I really want. Yay.

Hmm, ok got my email and it tells me to dl the client…but there is no mention of the beta build being complete…did we ever get a truly clear idea of the beta client and whether or not it is the same as the final game client?

At this point, even if I get in on the 13th, that gives me basically a week to re-dl the client and I won’t have to worry about versions.

They’ve said a couple of times if you played in one of the last two weekend beta tests your client should be ok to keep and you wouldn’t need to uninstall - you should be able to launch it and update (I understood there was more to download even if you had those clients) - but if you’d been in the beta a while you probably had a bunch of junk from prior betas and it would clean things up to uninstall and re-download.

I know I certainly had a bit of extra junk in my folder, so I uninstalled and am re-downloading right now, so I’ve got a week to get it installed (and probably longer, since I doubt I’ll be playing on the 13th, given when I registered my code).

Depends on your time zone, I preordered about 6:30 or 7am PST on the 21st, though I’m not sure exactly when I entered the pre-order code; could have been minutes later but definitely by noon PST.

Noon in what timezone?

My confimation mail was sent(according to the header) Thu, 21 Jul 2011 05:32:27 -0700 (PDT)

The beta client is updateable to the live client if you last played the beta after the weekend of November 26th. However, if you do that, your install may end up being ~38GB instead of 27GB. I plan to redownload it, myself.

Noon eastern. Jesus, you were up at 5AM for this?

It’s a bit odd that the “when you’ll get access” emails are going out starting on the same day when people get access.

Well, he could be like me and have done it when he woke up and saw the announcement (which was around midnight). He just wakes up at 5.

My assumption is they’re staggering it so everybody gets a chance to move through the newbie zones before the next wave starts the next day. Then again, all that stuff is instanced, so it may be a hardware/capacity issue rather than limited user-exposed resources (ie, no mobs to kill).

Yes and no…I got up around 10am that day and I didn’t read my email about pre-order going live until noon-ish and that is when I ordered it…but then again, I live in the land of the Future(Sweden)

bah i only preordered a month or two ago so it seems unlikely i will get much of an early start.

The whole idea seems kind of silly though. Chances are the people they let in on the first day are still going to be playing a ton on the second day, and so on. Maybe it will be a little lower than the game servers opening and EVERYONE trying to get on at a minute after midnight, but can’t be by that much.

At the very least it would be nice if they could tell us ahead of time when we are going to be let in for the early start.

I’m guessing that they a) underestimated just how many people would be playing early and b) overestimated how well their servers could handle the load after the big beta weekend.

Did the open beta hit capacity issues? I haven’t heard much crying about it, so I assumed it worked. I know their website hit capacity issues.

They should be letting people know in the next couple days. My guess is that it’s shifting folks forwards, so you may get 2 days instead of just one, if there’s a ton of people who just ordered recently.

They had pretty big lag issues on some servers where the game was almost unplayable for some folks.

It may also have to do with how shit their email customer support is right now, so they want to stagger tickets.
