Just got my invite email. Signed up 12/12, so they’re nearing the end of the list
If paying customers are in and playing, I’d call that “launched”.

When the company in question has 100% control and knowledge of how many people they need to provide for, there is zero justification for long que times. The whole ‘we don’t want to put up too many servers because we will have to take them back down at some point’ is bullshit. If they think that the server load is going to shrink below the level of pre-orders anytime soon, they have a much bigger problem on their hands.
It’s one thing if on day one suddenly the entire world decides it needs to log onto SWTOR, and they end up with much more users than they planned on, but this is just poorly handled. This isn’t some disaster out of the blue, this is something they’ve been aware of, and supposedly prepared for.
Part of the reality of running an MMO in 2012, you will need more servers at launch than you will eventually end up with. Part of the cost of doing business, and not my god damn problem as a consumer.
But they are adding more servers, so it seems they are aware of the issue.
Anyway, I request a separate thread for people to post spiffy character/action shots in.

I pre-ordered on December 13th and I just received my early access email!

I registered late on the 13th and gotin 30 minutes ago.
Made it onto The Harbinger with no queue. The pop. said “Heavy”.

um… and this issue was a shocker to them? That’s what surprises me. How they didn’t see this coming a mile away.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure you don’t make the actual lightsaber, you make the different upgrade parts (crystal, hilt, enhancement). You still have to get the lightsaber body that provides the base weapon dps as a drop or maybe from armstech if they can make them. I do agree that I like the crafting system though.

Keep in mind that while they know the numbers they’re letting in to Early Access, and they can certainly control the rate at which they come in, there’s not a whole lot they can do if a whole continent’s worth of people decide to pick a single server to descend on. Yes, the guild pre-launch program has helped balance things considerably, but people are not forced into using their “assigned” server.
They certainly could disable character creation on servers other than those you were assigned to, but that’s certainly not going to make people any happier than long queue times on a few servers.

You can craft the hilts which upgrade your lightsaber’s level as well as change the look of it. The hilts have stats as well, like the other two mod types and crystal piece. So in the end, a lightsaber is 4 parts and I believe Artifices can craft 3 of those 4 pieces?
A friend of mine pre-ordered late last night and just got his invitation email… so I’d say they’re really really close to the end of the list now. :)
When are people seeing queues? I’m yet to see one, but that may come from playing on an RP server.
Both of the QT3 guilds ended up on Harbinger, which is the most heavily populated server. Right now there’s a ~10 minute queue, but last night during primetime it was about an hour.

Yep. I pre-ordered last night around 8:30 Pacific and just got my invitation email.

Huh? There is always a big drop-off after the first month, so of course it will shrink.
Over time it may change again, but I dont think I ever heard of an MMO without a significant drop-off after the first month.
Done! Thanks for the advice.

Really this isn’t much worse than WoW on expansion release day…except that with SWTOR, everything actually works when you get in.

Actually I seem to recall I saw actual light saber bodies at the Crafting Recipe Vendor with skill requirements of 400, which is the max crafting. Although I might be misremembering I’ll try to remember to check next time I’m there.

Right now, Jung-Ma (east coast rp-pvp) has a 30 minute queue. It’s 3:40pm central. Heh.
Still, it’s stable once you get in.
The agent really grabbed me in the one beta weekend I had, and I rolled one as my first live character as well. All of the non-force using classes are actually pretty nicely done.
