There’s no quality limit but mods themselves do have level restrictions, so you can find a mod that requires you to be level 8 or 11 or some such.
For armor, the “armoring” slot essentially drives the level of the item - putting an “itemlevel 24” (or whatever that number is by the mod) mod in the slot makes the armor piece an “itemlevel 24” item. I had a moddable chestpiece for a level 11 guy, put in an “itemlevel 30” armor and suddenly it’s better (armor-wise) than the level 11 green chest I had been wearing.
For weapons I believe putting in a higher level barrel increases the damage done, and for lightsabers it’s, uh, I dunno. Whatever the slot at the top is (the crystal?).
Don’t forget you can pull mods out of items - for a small fee - so your pre-order color crystal can remain with you forever!
I rolled through the Esselee or whatever the first instance is called and came out of it with a lovely new chest piece. Unfortunately, it looks like I stole the carpet from a 70s era Ramada Inn and sewed a bathrobe out of it.
A very apt description. Though I’m thinking Best Western maybe.

I played a couple hours last night and had a a lot more fun that I was expecting. I’m on the East coast PvE server “The Corsair”. I took one look at how full Harbinger was and said fuck it. I plan to play this mainly singleplayer anyway.

For some insane reason the best armor my smuggler can find at level 15 is a jedi robe, but since it’s white, it looks like it comes from a more upscale hotel, maybe from the spa.
He just got his first helmet, which looks like some kind of prewar leather football helmet, and let me tell you, satin bathrobes do not accessorize well with leather skullcaps.

No mouselook AFAIK. I just mousedrive to move anyway (both buttons).
Respawn is a MMO-specific thing that can be a pain. In this case though it’s more noticeable because Bioware cranked up the respawn rates (for both objectives and enemies) for the launch-time load so people aren’t waiting too long to have stuff to kill. That should slow down later or on less populated planets.
The other MMO-specific thing you might keep in mind (and it goes along with respawn) is that the game – unlike other Bio RPGs – usually doesn’t give you a convenient shortcut to an exit at the end of every “dungeon”. That’s what quick travel (crystal ball icon) is for – you’re supposed to use it to get back if you don’t feel like cutting another path through the respawns.
Count yourself lucky you missed the smuggler helmet before that, which looks like a bank-robber’s ski cap. OK, minus the facial covering, but still. Not very dashing.
After playing the beta, i like it but man has it gotten its hooks into me now. I HATE crafting but heck I can even do it now. Combat is great, the voices just brings the game alive.
If your class/talent build is lucky enough to have a high quality thread, sithwarrior.com can be a very, very useful site for theorycrafting / talent builds / rotation etc. A lot of it tends to be abstracted for stuff like “single target DPS rotations for endgame” and so on, but if you know how to extrapolate from that sort of stuff it’s very useful.
It often uses Imperial terminology, but as the classes are mirrored you can generally figure things out even where they don’t explicitly mention both Imperial and Republic names for talents and abilities. Both my Concealment Agent and Vigilance Jedi Knight had threads with very useful, FAQ-style OPs.

I can’t believe it. I went and preordered it, spent two freaking days downloading it (my internet is crap these days, repair dude coming Monday morning), finally got it all downloaded and then…
black screen. I can hear some things happening, but just a black screen. It may be a resolution thing, but I can even get to a config option. Just a black screen. Anyone else have this problem and did you find a solution?

update your video card drivers.
I’ve been trying to figure out what it is that bugs me about this gameworld, and after seeing that screen shot I finally figured it out. Star Wars: The Beige Republic.
The entire game looks like a kitchen from 1974.

Isn’t that roughly when the first movie came out?
If you are considering buying SWTOR and have a daytime job. Consider this:
Ran in to a strange “bug” earlier.
AS the image shows, my useless slave went on a mission for me and failed, but even failing i got dark side points. However, for some strange reason hey were in some long fraction. Now my alignment is all messed up looking.
Strange.
That’s from having old video drivers - update and you’ll be good to go.

Someone sould send a “C programming book” to Bioware with a label on the page for sprintf.
This type of mistake happens, but normally are the first thing to fix in any software.

Make sure is not already running. You can always try to restart the computer, perhaps some resource is locked/consumed, and that may help it.

If anyone runs in to the launcher issue above delete the ‘patch’ folder seems to fix it.
