Much more simply: Queues exist so that the game is actually playable. If you limit the number of people on the server, you preserve the game experience of the people that are in game. For counterexamples, see any major MMO launch previous to WoW’s.
You have to wait, but at least the game actually WORKS when you’re in.
My suspicion/hope is that the servers are being artificially limited before release, because the newbie areas had much fewer players in them than during the thanksgiving beta weekend.

They instance the zones to solve that problem, though.
All i know is if these queues continue throughout the entire included month, queues will solve themselves as even bioware’s greatest defenders drop the game in annoyance.
It’s done to mitigate land rush. With almost the whole population hitting the same areas, the population per shard can overload the system. When the population spreads out (and is not playing 24/7 in such large numbers as a launch) it is less necessary. Also why not just throw more servers at it? Well you could, and some are fine…but when the population normalizes in 90 days or whatever, the overhead is an issue…and no MMO EVER wants to say they are merging servers…it is considered ‘OMG they are failing!!’
The population is never going to stop playing 24/7 if they feel they can’t play at all past 2pm unless they never let their character log out.
For example, i recently was away from my computer for too long and i completely logged out. Now i am in the first hour of a likely 2 hour queue. The lesson to this appears to be something i learned from my Ultima Online days, Unattended macroing, but the idea that people would need to setup programs on their computer to keep their character logged in just so they could get a chance to play during prime time is bullshit.

Thanks for the crafting input…
Extra Annoyance: I am in an instanced area when i have to afk and afk long enough to get disconnected.
I just now log back in to find myself stuck in a wall in my instance. I try /stuck and it teleports me in to the sea, where i instantly die from exhaustion. Now i am in a northern zone that i have never been to on the planet. Thankfully it is only a little higher than me, but this is still highly annoying.
This place is an island and the shuttle there won’t take me anywhere as well (don’t have link yet). thank god for quick travel being up.
Good god, the first 70 pages of this thread are useless.
I’m annoyed by the slight interface regression from WOW and the lack of mouselook, but it’s pretty fun at level 6. The fun is almost entirely due to the far better writing and world development.
I watched the Choose Your Side: Smuggler vs. Sith Warrior video, I very much want to be a Sith Warrior, and I will be once the game is out 6+ months and I can get it for half price.
I must say it looks quite amazing. :)

Did they remove right click weapon modification with the patch today?
Ctrl-right click still opens the mod screen for me.

Weird…ok. I swear even the message that said right click to mod when you looked at your weapons seemed to be gone for me as well.
Oh well no checking now- I just logged and I am sure there is a 900 person queue …heh.

I am not sure what you mean. The mouse look works exactly like WoW.
My mouse look is fine too. The only thing i notice is every so often it jerks up but maybe that is just me nervously fidgeting as i attempt to save my group and/or not die.
Really liking my sith warrior. I’m not liking the dress though. It just does not fit with my high tech looking armor. I am a deadly sith warrior who strikes fear in to the hearts of rebels while striking down anyone who looks like they may be distantly related to someone half guilty… and i’m wearing a dress.
I want a hood too. The mouth breather type helms do not look good without a hood in my opinion. Scratch that, i want one of those reven type masks or the one a certain central figure in the sith warrior story wears.
After tanking with a pretty good group and an operative healer (either this guy was WAY better than the sith sorcerer i partied with or i just like operatives better) i find i don’t NEED biochem as much. It is still a HUGE benefit to be able to use huge self heals on demand and constantly have a fort stim buff up though.
My experience with operatives also reinforces my desire to play one. Their armor is pretty bland looking though.

No it does that to me as well.
That makes me glad then. Now i am know i am not crazy.
It’s been Ctrl + Right Click since late beta, including on the tooltip message.
Not all weapons are moddable.
Is it possible to turn off the smart camera and I missed it? Because if not the mouse look does not work exactly like WoW. It is so annoying.
You’re like Evil Braveheart.

See, you wouldn’t have this problem if you played Mass Effect.
