That reminds me, I have a crapload of those I keep meaning to read, but I just want to PLAY MORE.

It’s not possible to switch factions from the Sith to the Republic, but as far as I know you can play an Imperial character but make light side choices during quests (e.g. sparing someone’s life instead of executing them, making a personal sacrifice to help an NPC, etc.).

The reverse is also true; Republic characters can make dark side choices during quests.

Ok, cool, this is what I’d meant, making the unexpected choices. I think it would be fun and interesting to RP but what about grouping up? Is the PvP determined by allegiance or Light/Dark?

PvP is by faction (empire/ republic). One of the warzones (Huttball!) allows you to fight your own faction.

I am running one char as empire/ dark and the other as empire/ light. It’s interesting that these choices can change overall quest results, even in flashpoints. Heaps of content!

I’ve also yet to hear anyone ask others to rush through cutscenes. People watch them. Perhaps that’s because the demographics are different on different server types (I’m on a RP-PvP server, Ven Zallow. It’s awesome)

So, I ran into an unforeseen problem last night. I got my Sith Warrior to 10 and made him a marauder…duel light-sabers hurt my eyes over time. Time to re-level him so he’s only using one and roll juggernaut.

I generally have tried to be a typical Sith warrior, but some of the choice have been too… distasteful for me to take.

2nd planet sith warrior spoiler

For the one where you are sent to kill the rebel sith lord’s son to send him a message, once i cornered his useless son and mother, i just felt too bad to simply kill them when they started begging for their life.

Then of course she convinces me to kill her husband instead which is kind of shady i suppose, but marriage for power, not love.

For anyone reading this who hasn’t actually done the quest yet, don’t ask for an item of power. I was HUGE disappointed when the wife of a Great Sith Lord ended up giving me 2 crappy item mods (or enhancements, i forget what type, just remembered the quality) that were worse than the one in the FIRST LIGHT SABER YOU GET! This pissed me off so much.

There have been a few of these and i think this is a real sign of quality when a game makes you feel like an ass based on your actions.

I think i kind of screwed my character. My 21 sith juggernaught has pretty good crafting skills, biochem and the gathering skills all being around 120, but i have about 20,000 credits. I’ve already pledged not to spend any money until 25, but it seems unlikely i will get my speeder then.

skill training cost goes up almost exponentially, at lvl 25, it’s like 7-8k for skill, I had 48k at lvl 25, then after training I end up with 30k…

having a speeder is nice, but not necessary. the really good thing about speeder is that it instantly heals your companion whenever you mount, so I just mount and dismount really quickly if my companion is low health.

you can do the same thing by dismissing and re-summon as well, but mounting and dismount is faster than dismiss-> resummon.

The same argument applies there as well. They could have spent those resources fixing other issues.** Anyone want to argue that the UI is awesome (not just adequate)? Didn’t think so. Do you think you’ll be enjoying those cutscenes enough in the coming years to ignore the UI issues?

**I’ve never played any ME, DA, or KOTOR game. After trying to force myself through jade empire, I just couldn’t stomach trying the others.

This is a lesson I learnt the hard way on my first WoW character. Now I never spend money while leveling except on the absolute essentials (skill training, fast travel, etc.). I send my companions on missions, but only Slicing ones that reward lockboxes/credits. I haven’t bought anything from the AH, nor have I delved into the moneysink that is crafting.

I’m sure using a full set of top-of-the-line (for my level) crafted gear would make leveling slightly easier, but I’m not exactly having difficulty using only quest rewards and random drops. At level 21, I have about 40k credits, and I’m hoping to have significantly more when I reach 25. :)

In a year or two everyone will be playing the expansion, not going through the original content again. In any case, each of the eight player classes has a completely top-to-bottom different story. The only time you ever repeat content is if you play the same class over again, which is only something people who played the beta will ever really do.

Not sure what you’re really trying to accomplish. It sounds to me like you’ve decided that the game is horrible and are trying desperately to convince the world to agree with you, even though they’ve already decided differently.

Why does modern warfare have such good graphics? they could have spent the resources fixing other issues.

In any event, their launcher says they are taking the game down from 4pm PST to 9PM PST. It is like bioware is on a crusade to stop people from playing during prime time. I don’t understand why they aren’t doing what EVERY other mmorpg ever made does and doing this stuff in the off hours.

You can make a lot of money doing Warzones. I’m level 24 with 70,000 credits (well, more like 65K~ now that I purchased some more ship upgrades).

Gonna guess that this is to fix showstoppers and not just routine maintenance. Taking servers down during primetime is something you only do for an emergency.

See ya- Have fun playing another game!

It’s their final server maintenance before the game officially goes live (at presumably midnight tonight CST). Although it’s still not clear to me why they didn’t do it last night. IIRC regular maintenance will be Tuesday late night.

I think the on-the-fly “bonus objectives” that compel my OCD forwards by killing x dozen of trash mobs are what seal the deal for me not wanting to play swtor.

I’m guessing so they can bring the servers up at midnight (eastern) in “release” mode and flag everyone who’s logging in as needing to enter their access code to play the released version (subject to the 48 hour grace period, of course).

You have to go through the 1-10 content twice to get one of each AC so everyone will be doing it at least twice. And possibly four times if you do one good, one evil for each although the dialog is not identical each time, it varies only slightly.

Quite the opposite. I’m loving it and that’s probably the issue. I want it to be so much better than it is and it’s frustrating to see all the wasted resources and moronic choices bioware makes (maintenance during prime time?!).

Maintenance is because the game is launching at the 20th and they need to be able to flag all accounts with the need for entering codes, and in general be able to call it a launch.

Thus the timetable

So…you love TOR so much that you want it to be a completely different game. A game with no voice acting and only text, which somehow WON’T be extremely boring the second, third, and fourth time that you think people are going to play through the same class.

I have a hint for you: if you are so into TOR that you play levels 1-10 of the same class to get every possible combination of skills then you are a huge fan and should be thanking BioWare for entertaining you for hundreds of hours instead of complaining.
