One hour queue, because it is better than three hour queue.

Earlier this evening I was number 400-something in queue, I alt-tabbed out…came back…and was logged in. Not exactly sure what happened there.

I’m guessing they sometimes do some kind of load-balancing and add physical EUs to a given “server” world, and this allows a whole batch of the queue to jump forward. I’ve seen the jump twice, once for 300 places in the queue, once for more like 100.

I think I’ve got at least a sense of what you’re saying, but I can’t figure out what EU stands for. And my Google fu has failed me. Can you correct my ignorance?

My current server still has no queues, so I’ll continue playing on that, but I’m hopeful that by the time I want to play other classes the Harbinger will have little to no queue. I would like to play with Qt3, but fuck waiting in line.

Part of the “Give me now” generation, are we? ;-) Just kidding, I find it annoying as well.
In other news, I’m a bit annoyed at how easily people are making money on slicing. I’m struggling for money, at lvl 23 having 18.000 and fearing every skill upgrade. This makes me feel I have to get slicing, since the economy will be inflated by slicing very soon, meaning everything costs way to much for someone who does not use slicing.
gah… so annoying!
Yeah, something seems “off” with slicing. I’m level 20 and I have 80K - and I didn’t really try for it. I just send my companions off whenever I can - but there’s no reason not to, and there’s no effort involved.
On the one hand, I REALLY REALLY like that the game seems to be very non-grindy in most areas. In fact, I love that.
But at this stage - with me not really knowing much about the economy - it seems slicing is a MUST for your primary character.
Well, maybe not, because as soon as you have a character in the later stages of crafting - the missions take a long time. I’m already up to ~15 minutes at ~230 slicing. So, I expect the final missions will take an hour or so.
In that case, you could just have an alt - log on and send 3-4 companions on slicing missions - and log back on your main.
That’d work, right?

The system to acquire gear is a big mess. We have commendation medals, crafting, customizables, rewards, and slots. I just want to find some pattern of usefulness. I feel like I’m consistently behind in stats.
The crafting system is frustrating. I need schematics, mats, and credits. The mission rewards are frequently commendations. You need 6 to 8 for one item. The instance rewards are customizables. You need to fill the slots every few levels.
We have two systems of gear, customizable and normal. Neither seem to perform very well. I picked syntheweaving, slicing, and archaeology. It just feels frustrating compared to running an instance or grabbing a decent green. The usefulness factor seems to under-perform comparable games.
I think for the custom stuff to stand out and be worthwhile, you need to make an effort where mods are concerned. Either crafting them yourself or buying them. There are also MOD commendation vendors.
I would have wanted more interesting procs and unique stuff with gear, but I really like how you can customise so much of what’s available. I also find that there’s decent variety in terms of how gear actually looks.
But the “stat boosts” are a bit too samey and simplistic.
I was also very overwhelmed at the “mess” of it at first, but I feel it’s starting to make sense.
I like that gear doesn’t seem to dominate like it does in so many other MMOs.

I actually agree. The crafting system seems really weird.
For instance - Armstech. You can make weapons, but why would you need that? All you need is one of the orange items, and then you need mods for it, not new weapons.
I am an artificer, and so far, I get my mods and the like from questing, which is far superior to what I can make.
I’m getting annoyed by the crafting, but really like the game still!

Completely disagree. The mods I make are much, much better than anything I’ve ever seen as a quest reward or at the commendation vendor. OTOH it does take a lot of time and credits to get your crafting to that level.

Can I ask what level you are, and what crafting level as well? Maybe I’m doing it wrong :-)
I think my crafting is around 100 now, and my level is 23 and I’m getting blue mods from quests that seem pretty good.

So I checked the Security Key Vendor and they are selling a full Slave Leia outfit complete with modable hat, top, bottom, and boots. I’m suprised we haven’t seen any running around game.
In other costume news, if you haven’t already checked it out, you can get a full Rebel Pilot costume using Fleet Commendations. Modable as with the Slave Leia outfit, so you could kit it out and use it for adventuring and AFAIK it would work just as well as a more conventional looking outfit.

I’m a level 26 Jedi Knight. My Artificing is at 212. It’s the purple recipes that are really much better than anything else. They do take a lot of time and effort to get your recipes from green to blue to purple. Plus it takes a fair cash outlay. But once you’ve got them they are much better than anything else out there. You can also make a decent return on them at the Auction House. Although realistically you’re probably going to make money faster by beating up on trash mobs.

oohh!! I didn’t know you could get better recepies than the blue ones? So just reverse engineer the blue ones as well?
Do you know if your crafting skill counts towards the chance of getting the schematic?
Also, I’ve gotten a few “Prototype” items, I wonder if those have a higher chance to give a schematic from reverse engineering?
Last night I purchased a new jedi robe, which was…purple I think. It has two moddable slots only though, but the stats are way better than the orange one I’m using. I just think it may have been a mistake to buy it, since it has a slot less than my previous one.
Dejin

Yep. That’s where the really great stuff is. Plus with the purple Focus/Generator/Shields you can sometimes critical on them and get a slot for an augment in them.
Do you know if your crafting skill counts towards the chance of getting the schematic?
Been wondering about that myself. Not positive, but I’m guessing the answer is no. I still seem to need about 10 on average to get the next schematic.

As far as I know it isn’t. But I could be wrong.

That’s the one part of the system that I find very confusing. I can’t tell how one item compares to another without mods. I thought I heard something about all orange items being the same, but from experience that doesn’t seem to be the case, but I’m not sure. And pulling the mods out just to try it out is prohibitively expensive with some mods costing upwards of 2,000 credits to pull out.

Thanks Ydejin! Now I want to go home and play with mods!
And yes, the unplugging of mods is seriously expensive. I can kinda see why they did it, but then an easier way to compare items and mods is needed.
The same goes for when you get armor for your companion. Once I press the “Companion” button and its my companion that is shown in the armor doll, my inventory items should compare to her gear, and not still my own.

There’s a UI setting to do this. Go to Preferences > User Interface. I think you want “Enable Companion Comparative Tooltips” set.

Can someone give me a good, beginners rundown of how reverse engineering works?
What items should I be doing this on? Items I craft? I reverse engineered two blues that I found so far, and all I got was one crummy piece of metal both times.
You can get schematics from doing this?
