They don’t need wardrobes, at least until you hit end game, the Leia outfit is fully modable, so it’s probably good enough for anything short of end game raiding.

Anyone who doesn’t think this game is awesome, well, GTFO now.

And I am glad for this discussion on the orange gear- I was not fully versed in it…I have a sneaking suspicion I have sold an orange item or 2 along the way. doh!

Reverse Engineering seems to get worse as you get in to higher level items.

Early on in biochem i only needed to make an item once or twice to learn the next one. Now i generally end up making about 10 items…

Last night I burned through a whole pile of resources manufacturing and reverse engineering to get a blue enhancement mod and a blue focus. I’m pretty sure I did at least 10 green focuses before unlocking the blue :-(

Is there anything important to save credits for after getting your speeder, or can I now throw everything at crafting?

Is there anything important to save credits for after getting your speeder, or can I now throw everything at crafting?

I’m also wondering this as I’m about to hit level 25. I’d very much like to expand my inventory slots and upgrade my ship, but I don’t want to screw myself over later if there’s another big purchase to be made at a higher level.

I thought at one point the cargo bays were supposed to unlock as you leveled up, but so far I see no sign of this happening. So I don’t know if this was changed at some point, if I’m misremembering, or if I just haven’t gotten to a high enough level. Definitely the other problem with crafting is it does require massive storage space.

I just blew around 10,000 myself at 23. now down to 22,000. Getting my speeder at 25 seems unlikely, but i got some new fun stuff.

Is it worth buying crafting missions? It somewhat seems worth it if they aren’t too expensive because you get WAY more materials and often the rarer ones, but not sure.

I just can’t support crafting through gathering in person. Yesterday i did some mission killing insects which i was able to skin to get TONS of biological compounds. I thought this would last me until the next grade but then i blew through them in about an hour…

I saw some higher level speeders that have higher skill requirements (i.e. Speeder (Rank 3)) so presumably you’ll need to pay more for those skill upgrades at some point if you want better vehicles.

Best not to overdo it I think since the costs do add up over time, but it’s definitely handy to get you started or get a few rarer resources you can’t get easily otherwise. Getting resources in the field is much more cost effective though.

They really need some way to organize your inventory, especially in the cargo hold.

I just throw all crafting resources in one general area and all gifts in another, but it is VERY messy.

The money collected off of mobs actually goes up quite a bit at Nar Shadda. So that should help at least a bit.

Probably not. They do seem to be just one-shot deals. Nice if you can get them for free, but probably not worth a lot of credits. Generally they consist of running all your mission types all in one shot with a high level. In other words a single mission listed as “Rich Gemstones, Bountiful Companion Gifts, Bountiful Lockboxes.” I don’t recall how much they cost to run, but you can think of them as worth about 3x whatever you normally pay to run a mission. I suppose as mission times get longer it could also be worthwhile in terms of saving time.

It is rather sad watching the piles and credit levels drop. But then when you get a shiny new something off of your own crafting table it all seems worth it. I’ve started to supplement gathering out on the world with running gathering related companion missions, but I don’t really recommend that until you get your speeder. Basically I scan through all my mission types and if I see something with Rich rewards I run it. Sometimes the same for Bountiful rewards if it’s something in short supply. Generally I ignore anything less.

I agree. The failure to autostack items when I transfer them from character to cargo hold is particularly annoying.

At one point the Speeder speed depended on the vehicle type with higher level characters getting faster vehicles. AFAIK that is no longer the case, as it got changed late in beta. As of now I believe the only benefit to getting one of the other speeders is to look cool. Anyway, that’s the last I heard on the subject as far as changes during beta goes.

This kind of stuff is really what killed my enjoyment of WoW. I’m the epitome of casual player in terms of the limited amount of time that I can be online. I was really thrilled when WoW implemented the automatic dungeon finder function in the Lich King expansion – finally, I’d get a chance to experience a good chunck of the end-game content (at least the 5 man stuff), and maybe even grab some cool gear. I knew I was behind the curve in terms of hitting the level cap and running instances, but I was blown away by the amount of impatience and intolerance shown to anyone who wasn’t prepared to run through each instance at breakneck speed. And god forbid you didn’t have every nuance of every boss fight at your fingertips.

I suppose the only solution is to find a guild where most of the players don’t feel the need to win some imaginary race to the end.

Slicing fuels my crafting, but it also makes me feel doubly bad when I craft as not only am I spending money on (fairly useless) crafting, but I’m ALSO missing out on the money I could have made sending my dudes off to slice.

I spent about 5k and probably another 5k in opportunity cost trying to reverse engineer some shit last night that just would not give me the recipe. I eventually gave up, since I could have bought the item off the AH for 3k.

Reverse engineering is sort of shitty. You can waste ridiculous money just trying to get a single recipe, and end up with nothing. Even if you do get what you want, there’s probably a better recipe is two levels away.

Slicing on the other hand has left me with 90k in my wallet at 22, even after that wasted crafting episode. I’ve bought the 5k and 20k bag expansions, and thrown about 10k at gear.

This is definitely true. I’m currently trying to go every other generation on getting purples. So if there’s a level 23 version, a level 25 version and a level 27 version I’ll purple the level 23, ignore the level 25 and purple the level 27. A blue level 25 version probably isn’t going to be better than a level 23 purple, and purpling every version gets prohibitively expensive.

So here’s something I’ve been wondering about with Space Combat:
What’s it mean when you shoot at a capital ship’s components, but they radiate blue circles?

I assume that means it’s shielded in some way, but I just don’t know if that means my shots are useless, only missiles work, only a little damage is bleeding through, etc?

In particular I’ve done the Republic mission where you are attacking a Sith ship in the atmosphere of a planet. I can completely destroy all it’s components but the bridge. Near the end of the mission it lets you do one last pass that seems you line you up perfectly to attack the bridge, but when I hit it it radiates those blue circles and I can’t seem to do anything to effect it.

I was under the impression that that meant that you were targeting it for missiles. Could be wrong though.

Oops yeah, let me be more clear… there’s the blue from targeting with missiles, but I also see blue circles radiating out from ship components when I light them up with blasters sometimes. It’s usually seems to come from components like the bridge or shield generators, but I just can’t figure out what it means exactly.

I definitely remember that from the tutorial.

That does suck, but I keep comparing it to having to get a ton of mats in WoW, crafting something 5 times just to get one point of skill out of it. And, of course, you could not break those back down and often they were plentiful on the AH because everyone else was doing it, so you could not sell them except to a vendor for pennies compared to the materials cost. Furthermore, getting a recipe was about 100 times more difficult than learning something every 5 to 10 crafts.

We want Bioware to improve on WoW’s crafting (low bar) and eliminate some of the annoyances. For me, they have done that, but I can certainly understand why folks would want it to be a little less tedious.

On a side note, I [heart] this game ever so much.

It just means it’s shielded.
