This x a billion.

I have a possibly stupid question. If I swap out one of my three tradeskills for another, do I lose all the progress I’ve made on it, should I want to pick it up again later?

yes you do

In the Giantbomb interview, the guy stated that the reason they won’t let people play more exotic alien types is that it’s too hard to identify with them in a protagonist role. And when it comes down to it, nobody really wants to have to always read what their character says.

Right! I forgot about that. The argument is that people will get sick of listening to their Alien jabber while reading subtitles through a couple hundred hours of main quest. Also presumably it will be hard to put in appropriate emotion into the alien speech performances, especially since AFAIK none of these are actual real languages (as opposed to Tokein’s Elvish or Star Trek Klingon).

I see that some bounty hunters spend so much time cradling a gun that their hands just sort of stick in that position even if they aren’t holding anything… lol

If you solve this, please post. I am having similar issues, and it’s driving me nuts when playing my healer.

According to the Art and Making of TOR book (which I got for Christmas), while they may not be Elvish/Klingon style languages, most of them seem to be based on real languages, so that at least keeps the problems of KotOR (where each species had like 3-4 lines that repeated – and it was very noticeable) to a minimum. That does mean a LOT of extra voice recording for non-Basic speakers though, even if you don’t need, say Jennifer Hale to come in and do it.

I have noticed already a fair bit of repetition in the alien speech, so I am doubting they have more than 15-20 phrases.

I am also getting a hot key bug where varios quick slot hotkeys will trigger the number “1” quick slot ability instead of the one the key is actually bound to. I have to leave the 1 slot empty to get around it.

Are there any benefits to remaining neutral with the force? I ask because I find myself pretty much just maxing one direction or the other, which isn’t very interesting.

Currently no, other than role playing. Bioware has promised Neutral Gear, but AFAIK it’s not yet in the game.

Alt+T Unless you mean a target of target frame, in which case, yeah it sucks.

It makes healing annoying as well, if you want to mix in DPS.

The light/dark system doesn’t impress me. Not only is the only useful choice to go fully one way or the other, but very often selfish or evil choices are flagged as light side.

They should have made light and dark purely cosmetic, and not tired gear to it at all.

Seriously fail.

It’s been 5 levels and I still haven’t gotten a second light saber for Ashara, my Inquisitor companion, though she is “neutral”.

SWTOR has some amazing features (story, mostly), but fails utterly (class balance and companion itemization) in some areas.

The Light/Dark gear is generally not that hot from what I’ve seen; you can get the equivalents pretty much without any restrictions from other sources.

This post neatly sums up why Star Wars “lore” is even more of a joke than most fantasy settings.

I haven’t looked in to it much, but most of the relics seem to be dark/light side specific for sith warrior.

My main annoyance is the fiendish conversation bug where the conversation icon randomly disappears after appearing. 2 of my companions have no problems, but the 3rd, the one i use primarily does and it is a hellish mini game trying to have a conversation with her. This is apparently a known bug from beta that is quite common with certain companions. There is some huge thread about it with no ETA, just a “submit data about where/when/why it occurred.”

Crafting is starting to take a LONG time now. Crafting items can easily take half an hour and i just started a (from memory) 240 epic gathering mission that is going to take 80 minutes. I wish i could tell multiple people to work on the same thing.

Does increasing loyalty actually have any affect on anything? It doesn’t seem to lower prices/time taken for missions like i thought i remember bioware stating it did pre release.

Yeah, relics are Light/Dark; the absence of neutral ones is a bit iffy. Armor/weapons, though, don’t seem to be very much affected, as the ones that require alignment seem pretty meh.

Star Wars as a setting has pretty much always been very black and white.

Although they do kind of retcon this a bit with the books explaining kotor -> swtor.

spoiler if you haven’t played kotor and VERY minor general swtor spoiler

The books and swtor try to retcon Revan from Kotor1 as having the best of both worlds, using the light side and dark side of the force at the same time and being stronger for it. This is basically one way to look at “True Neutral.”

As anyone who played kotor knows, this is not really the case. Revan was an extremely strong jedi who then turned to the dark side and then either turned back to the light or stayed with the dark, depending on your actions. At no time is Revan “Both,” (s)he is either redeemed back to light (ie not dark anymore) or dark.

P.S. the book explanation for why Revan turned dark is stupid and i wish i never read it, instead imagining some interesting, dark secret to the reason behind his turning.

True Neutral fits a D&D setting when talking about alignment, but it does not really fit a star wars setting where they drill in to you every 15 minutes during any movie or video game (other than kotor 2: The Gray Jedi Wars) how just going a little dark eats away at you and leads you down a path towards BThe Dark Side(bold)[/B].

We’re talking about a universe where jedi can’t even be in a monogamous relationship without it Leading To The Dark Side.
