You don’t need to be Hrose to have predicted this was coming. From today’s patch notes:

Rewards from Slicing have been reduced to bring them into balance with other skills.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

I thought you cancelled your account already. Why are you still playing?

Sounds like a fine thing for the economy - If only it was as easy in real life ;-)

A man’s gotta do something while he’s waiting for Postal 3!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I did cancel it but I still paid $85 and I do love the game so I’m going to play until my 30 days are up. I’ll decide then if I have better things to do or not.

That too. There’s little else out there to play. I’m doing some BTTF while servers are down and I work on crafting.

I’m guessing this is in reference to the slicing nerf.

I wonder how this will affect the economy. Lots of raw materials are pretty expensive on the GTN, and I sort of thought this was because slicing was injecting money into the economy. Assuming BioWare fixed slicing (they nerfed it in beta and it still was overpowered, so not a given that this nerf will bring slicing into line), will prices on the GTN come down?

The interesting thing about the GTN is that if you list an item and it expires, you receive not only your item, but the entire deposit back. So there’s really no downside to listing an item over and over and over - as long as you can float a little cash, just keep listing the item and maybe someone will purchase it. That’s worked for me with some purple boots I received. They didn’t sell until the third or fourth time I listed them, but who cares? I eventually got my cash.

So what I think I’m coming around to is this: since there’s no downside to listing items for a high price, I sort of think rare items will continue to be listed for high amounts of cash. Because all you need is some guy who really needs/wants it to come along once in a while and buy your item for an outrageous price.

So while I hope GTN prices for raw materials will go down, I’m not confident.

Great. Just started playing and they nerf slicing before I get to use it.

I am thinking all my Enhancements will not garner as high a price. Currently I and others have been charging thousands for things like level 8 Str/End enhancements that sell relatively quickly and I do not think one has expired. Money always available means people can constantly upgrade through purchases each time a level is available. Also, it can get expensive to de-socket your old stuff to make way for the new. Less money, of course, probably means not upgrading every time a new level is available.

Overall, everyone will be more broker. :)

Servers are a bit late coming up. Blargh.

Edit: (web app technical rant) It’s surprising to still see waiting pages (aka 503s) for fully-cacheable content. I wonder what’s going on over there.

The in game economy is all relative, if people have more cash, all pricing will adjust for it. The only thing having a lot of cash in the system does is make PvE easier.

The one thing that nerfing the economy WILL do, is make gold sellers more rampant. If cash becomes a problem for the PvE side of things, gold selling will skyrocket.

I for one am so sick of being kept in the poorhouse by MMO devs. For once it was nice to start playing a game and not feel like I had to grind for 40 hours to afford one piece of gear.

Slicing nerf sucks.

I think it is not sex so much as exclusive relationships which can lead to jealous which leads to anger which leads to THE DARK SIDE!!!(!).

The idea being that you’re married to bastille and see some guy being a little too friendly with her in a jedi party, so you get jealous and point out that she is married by ripping him apart with the force.

On crafting: materials are so expensive because the missions are expensive, not because of slicing. As a biochemist with supporting gathering skills i blow through money at an absurd rate. The only way to get the epic materials with any reasonable cost is to buy the gather missions as well, otherwise you might have to run like 4+ 1,700 credit missions just to get 2 (not enough to make most things).

I have started using the AH a bit though. I bought some recipe off the AH a while ago for a level 29 defense str/End implant which has been selling pretty decently. Also sold some higher level str/end implants. I need to actually work the numbers though as the gathering model swtor uses makes the cost of making an item a little harder to figure out.

It is a pain trying to make epic items with augment slots. These items are very expensive to make and the chance is very low. My very first epic implant had one, but none since.

Slicing nerf sucks.

As someone with slicing, I agree it sucks, but I also think it was needed. Slicing was so good that taking another crew skill instead really felt like you were gimping your character. A nerf really was inevitable.

Well, I can make just as much/more money selling mods from Cy tech, it’s just more of a pain in the butt. Slicing was nice because there was very little micro management in it. I could make 5k selling a mod that took me maybe 3 minutes to make vs making maybe 5 k on a mission that took 30 minutes via slicing.

I had one character that was my slicer, all of the rest took other profs, it was a nice balance. I could log on once every half hour or so and send my slicer off on some more missions. Slicing in and of itself is already a compromise, as you really need all 3 skill slots if you are going to seriously work another prof.

I find some of the other profs to be incredibly valuable. I have a really hard time not having Biochem on any non healing character for example, so taking slicing on those characters is already a huge sacrifice due to not being able to really do Bio without 3 skills being taken up.

As far as just making raw money, there are plenty of other ways to do it. If their goal is just to reduce the overall cash in the system, I think that’s a huge mistake.

I still say all this is really going to accomplish is boosting gold seller spam.

…so you get jealous and point out that she is married by ripping him apart with the force.

My wife hates when I do this.

My total dark/light points do add up to 10,000.

This seems to suggest either i will never get Dark V because i got some light side points, or that getting further dark side points will lower my number of light side points.

Obviously i can’t test it now, but i can hope it is the later, either though i fear it is the former.

and booo, i read the patch notes and there is no fix for companion conversation icons disappearing randomly. They do mention fixing one specific companion (not the one i use) so i can hope that that fix also fixes my companion i guess (doubtful)…

Great I just hit level 10 on my alt…one because I wanted a Jedi and 2 I wanted to get in on the slicing craze.

Is it really just ho-hum now and kinda the gathering stepchild now?

lmao @ slicing nerf. KNEW that one was coming. I think I got enough out of it to pay for speeder training and a speeder though. :D

I have 6 characters at lvl 27, 16, 15, 13, 12, and 5, so I have a pretty good taste for all the class stories and how they play.

In terms of stories, I rank them Agent, Inquisitor, Bounty Hunter, Trooper, Sith Warrior, Jedi Knight. I probably haven’t played enough of the JK to judge, but it’s definitely a pretty boring start. And the Agent story/character really feels like something out of Bond, even to the point of flirting/sleeping with every hot woman you meet. So awesome. :D

In terms of how fun each one is to play: Sith Warrior, Bounty Hunter/Trooper, Agent, Inquisitor/Jedi Knight. The Sith Warrior is just so visceral and you really feel like you’re tearing through everyone. In comparison, my sorcerer feels so weak and sitting back and shocking everything isn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Still, the sheer utility of the class keeps me coming back.

Really enjoying the game so far. :)

My attention is mostly on the one they’ve (hopefully) fixed, but my understanding of the issue you mention is that it’s more of a false indicator: when your storyline (class quest I think usually) hasn’t progressed enough, you aren’t going to get the conversation until you’re eligible, but you might get a false indicator that they want to talk (for instance after an affection increase).

That’s just from reading the forums, though – I haven’t seen an official post on it.
