This is the biggest mystery of SWTOR for me. UI issues for MMO’s are a solved problem. There are standards in place, or at least feature sets common to most well designed games. How Bioware managed to spend half a decade and $100m+, while ignoring basic functionality issues in the UI, is completely beyond me. They’re worst-in-class.
I like the game a ton. I hate the primitive UI it’s saddled with.

MMO developers love to reinvent the wheel. It’s astounding how many solved problems keep coming back up. Sometimes you wonder if they even bother to play the competition.
It’s especially amusing with SWTOR, since they so slavishly copied so much else from WoW.

Well, I disagree that they’re worst-in-class. You haven’t seen World War II Online.
But the UI is pretty bad and there’s absolutely no excuse for it. I mean, really, I can’t search items by name in the AH until I select three different variables? Go fuck yourselves.
On the other hand, I can tele to any bind point.

Yeah, I don’t even know how one comes up with an AH interface that doesn’t support directly searching by name. That’s some impressive design failure. You’d think the first time that got demo’d, the UI team would have had their ass handed to them.
Lol, I am sure that is so true, but have had the game for effectively two days and it isnt working for one of them…

I find Darkfall UI on some ways is easier to use.
I wonder If we will ever see something has epic has The Gray Border update on the game darkfall.

I’m just hazarding a guess, but I think this was a purposeful limitation BioWare put on their database search function for server performance reasons. It’s much less resource intensive to do a search query on only a small fraction of the AH database than the entire thing.

It’s not the maintenance downtime, or the fact they overrun that annoys me. It’s the fact that they have European servers, but not separate european downtime - this is a solved problem.

Yeah, it’s a very smooth launch overall.
Still, servers down with no ETA is a “You done fucked up” scenario. When you can’t even judge how far you’ve gone off plan during maintenance, things are bad…
Yeah, but I have to ask if this is your first MMO. Server downtime is just part of the deal and so far SWTOR’s been pretty damn good about it. But sometimes shit happens that can’t be predicted and it’s better they fix the problem than just shoving servers back online.
As for the UI issues, I’m a bit baffled by them, too. I mean, it’s not terrible, but it does a lot of things wrong that any MMO shouldn’t be screwing up at the end of 2011.

So?
I’ve had the game for 12 days and it wasn’t working part of this morning.
Oops, no, wait, it’s back again.
Entitled much? Google “Louis CK Conan” and watch it to re-learn some perspective.
More likely, the internal communications flow from the tech guys doing the maintenance to the CS people who give external updates is a little rough around the edges.

I believe that’s the “everything is awesome, but nobody is happy” clip. It’s great, and perfect for this scenario.

The Jedi Knight starts out pretty slow. Tython is kind of boring. But once you hit mid-Coruscant it gets great. I really enjoyed it from that point to the end of Chapter One. I haven’t decided about Chapter Two – although I just started, so maybe I’ll get more into it as I get further in.
For those of you that are complaining about comparing mods to mods in equipment, you need to turn on even more detailed tooltips. It will show all the mods that are in a particular item. You’ll also want to turn on “show companion tooltip comparison” or something like that. They’re both in the UI config preferences.

Are the hutt and coroscant markets linked ? If not, is it better to sell level 20 gear on coruscant?
There are a bunch of really useful things in the preferences – for example, you can set it so that when you loot a body after a fight, it loots everything else lootable nearby at the same time. Definitely recommend rolling through the Controls section at the very least.

They are not. Coruscant’s market is Republic-only, the Hutt market on Nar Shaddaa is cross-faction. I believe the fleet markets are also separate from the Coruscant/Dromund Kaas markets, too.
They are not linked. It’s probably better to sell sub-20 gear on coruscant since that’s where people will be using it. On the other hand, it’s entirely possible that most people aren;t gearing their first characters via the market, but will be gearing alts.
